I'm sure that, like me, you're heartbroken over the devastation in Japan. I watch the news coverage, and while I KNOW they will recover, I can't fathom how.

The need there is so great, and so urgent, that I'm hoping you'll join me in making a donation through the Red Cross - and in doing so, you'll be entered in a drawing to win an ARC (Advanced Readers Copy) of my May 2011 book, WHEN YOU DARE.

How does this work?

Make *at least* a $5 donation to the Red Cross by filling out a check or money order made out to the Red Cross, with Japan Earthquake and Pacific Tsunami in the memo line.

Send the check to me at:

Lori Foster
P.O. Box 854
Ross OH 45061

Immediately after making note of your donation, I'll mail it to:

American Red Cross
PO Box 4002018
Des Moines, IA 50340-2018

REMEMBER: when mailing a check, you need to indicate your designation Japan Earthquake and Pacific Tsunami on the check's memo line.

For every $5 you donate, I'll assign you a number and enter you in the drawing to receive WHEN YOU DARE.
* For every $10 you donate, you'll get 3 numbers to win.

April 1st I'll randomly draw a number to receive the ARC.
But I'll also draw FIVE other numbers to receive free books, winner's choice of an already published title. (Must be a book I have on hand.)

AND... I'll do a weekly drawing for someone to win a T-shirt and a book(Must be a book I have on hand) and it will NOT remove you from the grand drawing on April 1st. The sooner you donate, the more opportunities you have to get freebies.

I am forever amazed and touched by the extreme generosity of the romance reading and writing community. Please join me in this effort to help those who are so much in need.

Love to all,

Lori

Thank you to everyone who donated to the Japan Tsunam relief fund, announced in another blog post -
http://www.goodreads.com/author_blog_...

I'm so sorry that I'm late posting names. I have strep and feel pretty yucky and it just totally slipped my mind.

!! Karen Neumann !! gets the arc!
Karen, since I already have your address I'll get that in the mail to you right away.

The 5 names drawn to receive a free book:

1) Patricia Cochran
2) Missy Potts
3) Jean Mess
4) Shannon Barstow
5) Rosemary Cornett

Ladies, please contact me to let me know the book you'd like to have. You can email me at LoriLFoster@gmail.com

Also from the weekly drawings...
I’ve yet to hear from the weekly winners who get a T-shirt and a book, so if the following ladies would also email (and specify the size shirt you want, and the book title you prefer) that would be terrific!

Jody Hundtoft (weekly winner – book & T-shirt)
Shirley Cochran (weekly winner – book & T-shirt)

Thank you again!

Our grand total to Japan is: $685.
You are all wonderful!

Our collection for Japan was so terrific, I've decided to extend it for another month, this time with a copy of my June book (available May 31st) TRACE OF FEVER.

I'm sure you've seen in the news how earthquakes continue to rock the devastated area. And now Japan's nuclear safety agency has raised the severity level of the nuclear crisis at the Fukushima plant from five to seven on the international scale. That ranks it on par with the 1986 Chernobyl disaster.

The need in Japan is so great, and so urgent, that I'm hoping you'll join me in making a donation through the Red Cross - and in doing so, you'll be entered in a drawing to win an ARC (Advanced Readers Copy) of my June 2011 book, TRACE OF FEVER.

So how does this work?

Make *at least* a $5 donation to the Red Cross by filling out a check or money order made out to the Red Cross, with Japan Earthquake and Pacific Tsunami in the memo line.

Send the check to me at:

Lori Foster
P.O. Box 854

REMEMBER: When mailing a check, you need to indicate your designation Japan Earthquake and Pacific Tsunami on the check's memo line.

For every $5 you donate, I'll assign you a number and enter you in the drawing to receive TRACE OF FEVER.

* For every $10 you donate, you'll get 3 numbers to win.

May 23rd I'll randomly draw a number to receive the ARC.

AND... I'll do a weekly drawing for someone to win WHEN YOU DARE and it will NOT remove you from the grand drawing on May 23rd.
Weely drawings will start as soon as I receive a check from someone!

I am forever amazed and touched by the extreme generosity of the romance reading and writing community. Please join me in this effort to help those who are so much in need.

Love to all,

Trace of Fever (Men Who Walk the Edge of Honor, #2) by Lori Foster

So often readers ask me if I value reader feedback (and I do!) and if I then tailor my stories based on what readers have said. (No, I don't!) ::GRIN::

Actually, I can't. Reader feedback varies from one end of the scale to the other and if I tried to please everyone I'd never get anything done and my stories would be a convoluted mess.

Recently I received some perfect examples of disparate reader feedback based on... virgins. Yup, I sometimes write them. Often I don't. The thing is, I don't make that decision. The character does.

Characters literally "talk" to me and all I do is put down onto paper whatever they say. So if a heroine suddenly says, "I've never done this!" I just believe her and go with it. Later she'll tell me (or the hero) why... when she's good and ready!

But it was one of those virgin heroines that caused quite a reaction in a reader - who shall remain nameless. Those of you on my Facebook fan page knew about it at the time because the disgruntled reader - who really, *really* hated virgins - wouldn't go away. She even used a different name after I blocked her to keep railing at me. I had to ask some of you how to deal with her, and was given valuable information by law officials.

Here's the first of her many emails.
I am really sick and tired of sexiest, hypocritical pigs like you who think it is acceptable to send out the message that a man can sleep with plenty of women and the woman is expected to be either a virgin. I don't know were you sexiest, hypocrital pigs get off with your blatant sexiest, double standards.

Drag yourself into the 21st century you sexiest pig and realise that women do have sex and relationships and that it is perfectly acceptable for them to do so. The double standards that are so prevalent throughtout these stories and all the series is an utter disgrace. You are a disgrace as a woman and should be ashamed of yourself.
FYI 21 is too young to be settling down.
SEXIEST, HYPOCRITICAL PIG

So yeah... she totally hates virgins! Especially female virgins.

After I finally managed to block her (after contacting local authorities for cyber threats) I got the next email from a different, very lovely lady - who will also remain nameless, though I did get her permission to share.

Just wanted to send a BIG THANK YOU for writing romance books with virgin heroines!!! Not many contemporary romances have heroine that are virgins and really appreciate (and love your stories!!) you for having some that are.

We are still around; normal women, successful, attractive but waiting for that special someone to love deeply and it to really mean something special.

Love your books and again thank you!!!!!

Now that's just an example of the range of reactions my books get. I hear from readers who say they'd read my grocery list, and readers who tell me to rot in hell. lol.
I hear from readers who say they love my Alpha males, and from readers who tell me the guys should be incarcerated for crossing the line.
Some readers praise my smart, savvy heroines while others dub them too stupid to live.

Opinions are so fun, and I don't mind any of them. (As long as they don't start stalking me as the above reader did.) I'm happy to say "To each her own!"

But since I get asked repeatedly if I'll take feedback into account when writing the next book, I thought I'd share this awesome example of why I can't, won't, and shouldn't.

Besides, it's the characters who direct the stories so it'd really be up to them. And so far, they refuse to change the way they do things. :-)

So what do you think? Is the occasional virgin acceptable? Or do you have a very specific dislike for them?

Happy reading to one and all - whether you're reading me or not!

My editor just asked me if I have any dedications for three - count them THREE - upcoming books. June, August and September.

I should, because I got a lot of impromptu help from readers online. Sometimes from husbands of readers online. Occasionally from other writers who have specialties or unique day jobs.

And honestly, I always mean to do the dedications because they're very much deserved. But there are usually soooo many people who've answered a question or questions, or filled in a research blank, that it's tough to keep track.

But I swear to you, I am eternally grateful. From the heart, I mean that.

Everyone who helped me with research on setting up a business, firefighters, gym equipment, and even names for stray dogs - I thank you, x 10.

Any deets in the book that I got wrong are my own doing.
But little deets that are right... I probably got that from a wonderful reader. :-)

Happy reading to all,

Know what makes a great holiday gift?
A personalized book, signed by the author!

Even better, your gift will help to contribute to some really incredible charities at the same time.

For years now I've been doing my benefit books where the advance & all royalties go to a specially designated charity local to me. My publisher gives me a certain number of print copies and I'm happy to offer them to you!

While supplies last, you can get signed print copies of Back to Buckhorn, A Buckhorn Summer, and/or Love Bites!

Back to Buckhorn (Buckhorn Brothers, #7) by Lori Foster A Buckhorn Summer (Buckhorn Brothers, #8) by Lori Foster Love Bites by Lori Foster
(Unfortunately, I'm now out of Animal Attraction.)

To see more about each of those titles, visit my website at:
http://lorifoster.com/benefit-books/

Or for extra fun, choose The Write Ingredients: Recipes from Your Favorite Authors, a special cookbook with many of the recipes donated by authors!

The Write Ingredients Recipes from Your Favorite Authors by Lori Foster

To get your book in time for holiday gift giving (and while supplies last!) send me an SASE (self addressed and stamped envelope) with a $5 donation (check or money order) to either:
The One Way Farm, a home for abused and abandoned children, or
The Animal Adoption Foundation, a no-kill animal shelter.

Your SASE should include $3 postage on it, and be at least 9" x 12" so it's big enough to easily hold a book.
INCLUDE A NOTE telling me what book you want, to whom you'd like it signed, and your email address in case I need to reach you.

Want more than one book?
No problem. But you need to go through the process for each; I need an individual package of SASE, note, and charitable contribution for each request.

I'm so sorry, but US only. It's not feasible for me to fill out custom forms and charge a small fortune to send to other countries.

Send your SASE, donation, and note with details about which charity you've chosen and the name for the dedication, to:

Lori Foster
P.O. Box 854
Ross, OH 45061

I'll post on here if I get low on any copies.
If you've already sent your request and I run out, I'll contact you for a substitute book.

Any questions, just let me know.
Thanks everyone, and happy reading!
