Make sure what you have written is a good novel, or it won't matter how many read i…moreI'll give the same advice that I've been given. Always be writing. Make sure what you have written is a good novel, or it won't matter how many read it. And make sure to have it proofread and edited. It's so easy to have mistakes, and your eye gets so used to reading your own work that you'll miss them. Ask beta readers to tell you what they liked and didn't like. That really helps. Then you decide what should stay in the book and what should be tossed. I'd made so many revisions in 8.5 years of work that I actually reread the book after it was on Amazon in order to have fresh in my mind what remained and what was removed. I know my couple who are my book's primary characters and what they experienced so well that I was concerned I might forget that the reader is meeting them for the first time.

Join a local writers meeting and hear all those who have done this. You can get so much good advice and encouragement. I've met so many authors who have already been down the road I'm just starting on, and they have a lot of insight. Read forums and join discussions. And as I'm always told, again, you should always be writing.(less)
