A longtime military spouse, TONI MORGAN has lived in many parts of the US and also for nearly four years in rural Japan. There she had the good fortune to work part-time in a Japanese pottery factory. Second in the trilogy is HARVEST THE WIND, partially set in a Japanese internment camp in Idaho's Magic Valley. The third in the series is LOTUS BLOSSOM UNFURLING, which continues the saga after the war ends. Eventually, the block disappears and I'm once again sitting at the computer, closing my eyes and seeing the story unfold.

To me, writing is painting a story with words, and painting is telling a story with color. (less)

When the writing is flowing, it's like closing my eyes and watching a movie and just writing it down. I love my characters, even the bad guys, and enjoy seeing how their lives evolve. (less)

“You have not brought me shame, my son, but nor have you brought me pride.”
Toni Morgan, Echoes from a Falling Bridge: A Novel

“Japan had an historical imperative to exercise its power where it wished.”
Toni Morgan, Echoes from a Falling Bridge: A Novel

“Looking backward is painful. Looking forward is no easier.”
Toni Morgan, Echoes from a Falling Bridge: A Novel

“Night had fallen. They marched toward Japanese-controlled Manchuria, or Manchukuo as it had been renamed, through an area mostly held by the enemy. Almost without thinking, Toshio reached beneath his tunic and touched the soft white fabric and red stitching of the thousand-stitch belt sewn for him by his mother and his wife. Wrapped double around his waist, the spirit of the belt would ward off bullets.
Single-file, they made their way along a narrow path through what recently had been a battlefield. Tanks had churned up the ground, making walking difficult. Although no one spoke, the total silence of one hundred-fifty men passing through the dark was not possible. A twig snapped. Fabric rubbed against fabric. A rifle butt clinked against a canteen. Someone slipped and uttered a whispered curse.”
