Jane Billinghurst grew up in the U.K. and has an M.A. in German and philosophy from St. Anne's College, Oxford.

Jane worked, primarily as an editor, for Oxford University Press in Oxford; Yale University Press in New Haven, Connecticut; Western Producer Prairie Books in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan; and Douglas & McIntyre in Vancouver, British Columbia, before becoming a freelance editor and a writer of adult non-fiction.
