(I'm working on my second book right now, and I've definitely skipped a couple chapters when I was at risk of getting stuck there.) The biggest thing is to try not to get stuck. Keep working at it, but come from a different angle. Sometimes, you go with brute force, using an outline or talking it out with someone. Sometimes, you need a brief break so you can step back and get the bigger picture—just be careful that when you take a break from it, you're still leaving the door open to let your mind mull it over in the background. A break can easily become a permanent departure, but even if that's the case, you can always work on something new! Not everything you start will get finished. Just keep writing!

There's so much advice that I can't possibly condense it here, except for a couple highlights that I keep returning to:

- Whenever you're inspired, act on it. Even if it's a different project.
- Keep writing. You don't have to do it every day at the exact time, but you need to keep doing it in order to improve.
- A finished first draft is more valuable than a perfect first chapter. You can't revise what doesn't exist.

And enjoy! Writing can be a hobby for fun or a career. Whatever it is to you, try to always enjoy it!!(less)

Nameless Queen by Rebecca McLaughlin
Glenquartz is middle-aged, probably in his late 40s, early 50s - not so much a love interest as he is a guiding parental-type figure. However, as far as a ship goes, NAMELESS QUEEN is actually absent of a sub-plot romance. I know that's pretty uncomm See Full Answer

“But some of the best things are Nameless, I think. Like ... like that feeling you get somewhere between your heart and your stomach when you're about to pickpocket someone. It's a mix of fear of excitement, and you have no idea what's going to happen next. That whole big feeling? There isn't a name for it. It's Nameless.”

"I don't write reviews, usually just star and move on. But this book kept me up all night. I didn't realize what time it was when I finished and it made me cry. Not because of romance, but because of human decency. It's been a long time since a book h" Read more of this review »
