FRACTURED TIDE, which will be out on May 5, 2020, with Harper Collins/Blink Young Adult, is my debut novel. My short fiction and poetry have appeared in various journals, Orca Literary Journal, Kaaterskill Basin Literary Journal, Typishly, The Lyric, and Raintown Review. I won the 2018 Frisco First Chapter Contest for FRACTURED TIDE, which gave me enough confidence to pitch the novel to Amy Bishop, an agent with Dystel, Goderich, and Bourret. She said yes, and I’ve been celebrating ever since.

I live in Fort Worth, Texas, and when I’m not writing, you can find me watching B-horror movies, scuba diving, or taking care of chickens. My husband, Russell Lutz, is a writer as well, so if you want to read some awesome science fiction, pickup The De

I was trying to come up with a 1-to-10 gruesome scale for FRACTURED TIDE, but I can't really settle on a number. I think it depends on your perspective and your personal tolerance for gore. The monster attack scene has some gross moments, but I intentionally kept a lot of the gore off screen to make the creep factor go up, rather than go for pure shock. You'll also get some minor gore once our main character gets to the island, but those moments aren't over-the-top either, as often what the main character sees on the island is so horrifying to her that she feels the need to look away as soon as she gets a glimpse.

I absolutely hope you buy and read FRACTURED TIDE, but I also love giving recommendations. For Young Adult horror, I really like Danielle Vega, and SURVIVE THE NIGHT has a pretty decent amount of gore. I also loved Kate Alice Marshall's RULES FOR VANISHING, which has a super cool SILENT HILL quality to it (the film from 2006). My other suggestion would be to go to the Horror Writers Association website (horror.org) and click on the Bram Stoker Award link. There you'll find the short-listed novels for the Bram Stoker award; the young adult award this year went to OWARE MOSAIC by Nzondi. I haven't read it yet, but it's on my TBR list for sure. Kate Alice Marshall's book was shortlisted there as well. I love to find new authors by poking around on the HWA site, so you should definitely check it out! (less)

This story, this story! I’ve been a reader of fantasy novels since I first fell in love with reading at the age of 12, and this book reminds of all the reasons I became a reader. I'm done with dystopian, sad, gray fantasy worlds. Give me wonder, give ...more

A WICKED MAGIC is a mind bender of a book. After I finished it, I found myself going back to the characters and their dilemmas and wondering what's next for them--always a good sign that a story has done its job.

This thriller is a page turner. The main character is flawed and compelling, and her childhood trauma lent a lot of angst to the main character's personality. I always love stories that involve recovering missing memories, or trying to realign distor ...more
