I was fascinated from the first chapter. The author has an extensive knowledge of carpet making, its history and craft and used this to weave a story set in Turkey around the first World War and the years that followed. Some of the events were famili ...more
A Pocket Full of Days by Mike Cavanagh
"As an established fan of Mike Cavanagh’s writing, I was keen to read his second memoir. I wasn’t disappointed, far from it. A Pocket Full of Days: Part 1 is an absolute treat.

In this book, the author takes us on a journey through his younger years..." Read more of this review »

I did enjoy this book. The author's self effacing romp through the uncertain world of acting is a treat. From local amateur dramatics to university, bit parts on Coronation Street and uncounted numbers of anonymous appearances in an ill-conceived act ...more

"A delight! An exciting new voice in the travel memoir genre.

I really enjoyed reading this richly descriptive travel journal and found the information fascinating. Having never visited Paris, I feel I've learned a lot. Lovely, gentle reading.

I found this memoir challenging. I thought that the author I knew from some doubtful and altogether unsanitary adventures in India would slide into mediocrity when writing about his marriage and domestic arrangements back in England. I was not prepar ...more
