Born in 1963, Michael Hicks grew up in the age of the Apollo program and spent his youth glued to the television watching the original Star Trek series and other science fiction movies, which continues to be a source of entertainment and inspiration. Having spent the majority of his life as a voracious reader, he has been heavily influenced by writers ranging from Robert Heinlein to David Weber, and many in between. Living in Maryland with his beautiful wife, two wonderful stepsons and two mischievous Siberian cats, he left his government career job and now writes full-time.

And, in truth, had they stumbled upon a civilization in that age of development - or, better yet, back in the Middle Ages in Europe or Imperial China or Japan, as a few examples - they would have been overjoyed: sword against sword. They don't like using technology in battle unless they have no other choice.

“The sun's glow had given way to a brilliant twilight that colored the great mountains with violet and orange rivers.”

“if anything, you may think of me as Adam without his Eve, cast out of the Garden with no hope of ever returning.”
Michael R. Hicks, Confederation

“When you have eliminated the impossible,” he heard Melissa say through the intercom, “whatever remains, however improbable, must be the truth. Sherlock Holmes said that.” “I never would have figured you for a fan of Arthur Conan Doyle,” Jack said.  “I didn’t read it,” she said with a trace of exasperation. “It was on TV.”

You don't need a Kindle or Nook, etc. - there are free apps offered by Amazon and Barnes & Noble that work on your PC, phone, etc. :-)

Bona Fide Reflections

Michael Hey, folks! I'm putting together a group of beta readers for DEAD SOUL, the latest novel of the IN HER NAME series. I've already got several, but am looking for a couple more.

I'm mainly looking for folks to help critique the story and find its weak spots, things that strike you as odd, etc. I don't ask that beta readers look for spelling or grammar bloopers, but if you do notice some and pass them along, it would be most appreciated. :-)

This is on a pretty tight timeline, unfortunately: I'd like to have the feedback in by this coming Sunday, so please take that into account.

Anyway, if you're interested, please let me know by this afternoon today and I'll send you a copy (Kindle, PDF, or ePub format).

Thanks!
Mike
