Shykia Bell was born and raised in Brooklyn, NY, by her parents, Mildred and William. After earning a bachelor's degree in Communication Design, she held a variety of jobs and her design and production work has been published in newspapers, magazines, television, billboards as well as the NYC transit system. Eventually, Shykia felt the need to shift gears in not only her career, but her life as well. After resigning from her most recent job as a graphics coordinator, she began writing as a therapeutic form of expression. It didn't take long for her work to transform, ultimately resulting in the creation of Camileon.

Shykia resides in Brooklyn with her husband Max and their pet black cat and cockatiel. At present, she is diligently working on

With shaky penmanship, Daniel Fitzpatrick vented his frustrations, pain, and ultimate surrender. Then he hung himself. He was only thirteen years old.

No parent should ever have to bury their child. Yet, this past Monday, that’s precisely what Daniel’s grieving family had to do. Daniel is one of many kids whose suicides punctuated the end of prolonged bullying and cruelty. Too often the ghosts...

More of Shykia's books…
“The physical stage of bonding is at its most powerful when all other forms of bonding have been achieved. If this has been done, the final petals of the flower have reached full maturity and unfold, leaving no restriction for pleasure, physical or otherwise. Having learned your partner and when to push, pull away or work together in fluid unison; having learned what enthuses and delights their senses, you are prepared to carry all of this knowledge into the sweet cadence of your unity.”
Shykia Bell, CAMILEON: Beyond The Veil

“The warmth of your heart is tauntingly near, but you reserve it as you shut me out in the lizard of your doubt. Is it because you don't understand the freakish assembly of my soul, a soul that was once broken? In some ways I guess I don't blame you. if I had the opportunity to avoid the vague horizon of my future, I would. But these are the cards I've been dealt and I still don't know all the rules of the game. My burden is heavy and becomes harder to bear each day. I know I have the ability to endure it alone if I really persevere, but I prefer a steady hand to help guide me along the way and maybe even hold me in times of uncertainty.”
Shykia Bell, CAMILEON: Beyond The Veil

“Imagination is the golden-eyed monster that never sleeps. It must be fed; it cannot be ignored.”
Patricia A. McKillip

“If you want to write, if you want to create, you must be the most sublime fool that God ever turned out and sent rambling. You must write every single day of your life. You must read dreadful dumb books and glorious books, and let them wrestle in beautiful fights inside your head, vulgar one moment, brilliant the next. You must lurk in libraries and climb the stacks like ladders to sniff books like perfumes and wear books like hats upon your crazy heads. I wish you a wrestling match with your Creative Muse that will last a lifetime. I wish craziness and foolishness and madness upon you. May you live with hysteria, and out of it make fine stories — science fiction or otherwise. Which finally means, may you be in love every day for the next 20,000 days. And out of that love, remake a world.”
Ray Bradbury

“Anti-intellectualism has been a constant thread winding its way through our political and cultural life, nurtured by the false notion that democracy means that 'my ignorance is just as good as your knowledge.'
Isaac Asimov

“Self-education is, I firmly believe, the only kind of education there is.”
Isaac Asimov

“I write for the same reason I breathe - because if I didn't, I would die.”
Isaac Asimov
