Richard Nell concerned family and friends by quitting his real job in 2014 to 'write full-time'. He is a Canadian author of fantasy, living in one of the flattest, coldest places on earth with his begrudging wife, who makes sure he eats.

His debut novel, Kings of Paradise, is the first of an epic, coming-of-age, low fantasy trilogy, and a Canadian Amazon best-seller in dark fantasy. It's available now.

He also writes flintlock fantasy! Join his mailing list for news on finished work, freebies, and the occasional philosophical rant.

So glad to hear it! Tentative plan is this:

1. Ash and Sand Series - Book two (King of Ash) to be released August, 2018. God willing and the creek don't rise, book three (and final) to be released August, 2019.

2. God-King Chronicle novellas - at least 1 more released in 2019, probably end of year.

3. God-King series - first book in latter part of 2020. Maybe another novella or two before that, with the next two books in the series with a year space.

These all might adjust slightly of course, but George Martin I am not. Any and all delays will be short, and as far as I know, I'm not going to drop dead anytime soon. Thanks for the question!(less)

Two pieces of rather exciting news:

1. For the collectors and e-reader haters: a physical book of Kings of Paradise is now available to order on Amazon. And it looks pretty bloody good if I do say so myself, which I do!

Darkmage by M.L. Spencer
"Darkmage is a solidly good read (4.0 of 5 stars). Spencer ratchets up the tension slowly but surely as things go from bad to worse in this story of a people trying to fend off an invasion by an overwhelming enemy.

"I devoured this an under an hour.

Though there is a lot to digest in this short novella, my attention was peaked. Madson makes for an ensnaring world with vivid description and engaging characters.

I had seen quite a few positive reviews pop up for this as part of my TBRindr project, so I had high hopes for this one despite the fact that I knew it was going to be a romance heavy novel. I liked this one, and I have also passed i..." Read more of this review »
