I found it very involving. Even if it was built on a dystopian bedrock, I could feel a strong sense of reality on what was happening.
I loved the figure of the mechanical dog, which gives a very strong impact to the story.

“I would like to be the sea
I would like to break into millions of pieces
and I would like each piece
to be dispersed in the world,
so that I can live forever
without suffering as I suffer now.
Because everything you throw into the sea
sooner or later comes back to you.”

“We're mired in a paradox wherein people write absurd stories about societies on the verge of collapse, but in reality, the worst dystopian world is the one in which we currently live our daily lives.”

Perché proprio in quell'istante? Non si sa. Fran.
Ci rimasi secco. Fran.”
Alessandro Baricco, Novecento. Un monologo
