Joslyn Chase is a prize-winning author of mysteries and thrillers. Any day she can send readers to the edge of their seats, chewing their fingernails to the nub and prickling with suspense, is a good day in her book.
Joslyn’s story, “Cold Hands, Warm Heart,” was chosen by Amor Towles as one of the Best Mystery Stories of the Year 2023 and “A Band of Scheming Women” was a finalist for the Derringer Award in 2025. In addition, her thriller novel Staccato Passage was a 2025 semi-finalist for the Adventure Writer’s Grandmaster Award.

Shocked, I didn't know how to respond and after an uncomfortable silence, the caller hung up.
To this day, I don't know if it was an unfunny prank call or the sinister overture to an illicit business proposal. It haunts me, and I could write a story around this experience. Someday, I might.(less)

After years of searching for the perfect shade of lipstick, Melissa found it at last when the strange old woman who brewed herbs and potions formulated it for her from all-natural ingredients, the same woman whose son had died all those years ago in a hit and run accident. As Melissa surveyed her gorgeous lips in the mirror, puffs of smoke arose, suffusing her face as corrosive acid ate away the flesh, exposing the pearl-white bone of her skull, making her wish she’d never drunk those last six beers before she got behind the wheel on that long-ago night.(less)
