The Nameless Republic fantasy trilogy signed to Orbit: A prelude

So, the news is out. Orbit (Hachette Book Group US) has inspired by an amalgam of West African middle-age empires. You probably saw me squee about it all over on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram.

Here, though, I want to talk about The Nameless Republic itself for a bit, about what it is, and about the time before this unwieldy thing even had a name.

Loved it. My first graphic novel in a while, and I wasn't disappointed.
Suyi Davies Okungbowa is accepting questions on his profile page.
Suyi Davies Okungbowa is on page 171 of 224 of Lagos Noir: What Are You Going To Do? (Adebola Rayo), Eden (Uche Okonkwo) and Joy (Wale Lawal) were much better stories. In fact, I think Part II, with the stories of family, was much better than Part I, Cops and Robbers (which had stories that mostly bordered on cliche).

I always used to see this book in stores and think it wasn't for me, even though I'd heard good stuff about it. I'm a Black, Nigerian man, and I didn't think a book about a Latinx teenage girl coming of age in New York would resonate with me much. I ...more

If you're looking for horror, you won't find it here.

I'm not sure who chose to file this book under horror, but I thought they must've seen King's name and assumed.

As with many of my favourite King stories, this is a tale about people first

“Funny. Slave masters thought they were making a difference in black people’s lives too. Saving them from their “wild African ways.” Same shit, different century. I wish people like them would stop thinking that people like me need saving.”
