I have deadlines to meet and daily word count goals to reach, and having extended periods of writer's block isn't compatible with that. So, when I'm feeling blocked, I just keep going. It usually hurts, and the writing is often no good, but at least that way I avoid becoming habitually blocked.
If I really, truly can't write, then I go for a walk or play with my kids for a while. Then I get back to writing. It just has to be that way. If I reserved writing only for the times in which I felt inspired, or saved it for those days when it came easily to me, then I'd never get anything done.(less)

Chauncey Rogers is 50% done with Thrawn: I'm enjoying this, but it does kind of feel like blue-skinned Sherlock Holmes in space, except Watson is a cowboy supply officer instead of a doctor, and the commodore at the imperial academy sounded 100 percent like Goofy's next-door neighbor Pete. But definitely still good. I'm eager to see where this one ends up.
