Hard to ignore the racism...

Having looked into it, it seems like Lovecraft was extremely bigoted even by 1920s standards, and that really bled into this story (nothing scarier than dark-skinned foreigners having an unfamiliar religious practice!)

If I'd wanted to re-read Beowulf, I'd have re-read Beowulf.
