Review: POWER, WEALTH, AND MURDER by Ella White
Vickie, owner of a coffee and book shop, loved mystery books, which was why she hosted a mystery book club.
One morning, she finds out one of her favorite mystery novelists, who recently gave a reading at her shop, was suspected of murder. And the murder was exactly like the one in the book. Who would have it in for the author? Evidently, a lot of people. Mother and daughter are working together on this one.
Although this case involving a murder right out of a murder mystery book was interesting, it involved a few too many suspects. Some of the narrative was a bit trivial and there were some typos in it.
Overall, this was a simple read that’s fairly easy to get into. An okay read.

Review: BODY IN THE BOOKS by Heather Huffman
Nora’s uncle died and left her his entire estate, which included a dusty, old bookstore
The writing and narrative were okay, but the whole thing was slow. There was so much time on getting the big dog in the car and checking out the book shop. Okay, I get it. Get on with it already!
Much prefer shorter chapters over longer ones. The whole thing was just dull for me

Review: HOMICIDE AT THE HARBOR by Cindy Bell
Maddie Mills was still trying to start her life over in her old childhood home.
This certainly had a slow start. Very slow. Usually, the dead body would show up in chapter 1. Instead, we don’t hear about the murder until chapter 7. Right there it’s way too slow. Not good.

Review: INN THE DOG HOUSE by Heather Horrocks
It starts with a make-over and a party. It’s very SLOW followed by TOO MANY characters in the 2ndchapter. It doesn’t explore the mystery well as the storyline loses the reader’s interest fast. Not very good.

Excerpt One:
The drive was uneventful, and by the time I pulled into my parking space, I was bored and lonely.
I slogged up the stairs to the front door. First, I’d throw a load of laundry in, and then I’d order an early dinner of takeout.
Standing at the kitchen counter with the menus, I picked up the phone and hit speed dial. The voice was warm. “Hey, how was New York?”
“Well, it was good for you. You are now a proud season ticket holder for the Yankees.”
“Really, Lil?”
“Yeah.”
“Thank you, sweetie.”
“You’re welcome.” I bit my lower lip. “Hey, can I come over?”
His voice deepened. “Megan is away.”
“I know.”
“Ah, that kind of visit.”
I leaned my head against the cabinet. Darn it. I wish I had more willpower. “Yes.”
“Come on over.”

Review: “She’s dead.” The words that started a lonely woman on her journey.
Once she found out about the death of her great aunt, Lily felt a sense of finality and relief. Ding-Dong, the witch is dead. As the sole heir, Lily inherited everything, including a house in Vermont. One look at the house and Lily knew she was home. It was official: she would fix it up and move in right away.
Between the contractor and the guy at the pizza place, only one thought crossed her mind: “Damn, they grew hotties up here.”
Suddenly, she was caught in the attention between two incredible and handsome men. That Berto was really temperamental and controlling while Tom was sweet, kind, and caring.
Meanwhile, the contractor finds a hidden stained-glass window in the wall with a design matching Lily’s tattoo. The whole time she ponders the window, Lily’s torn between the 2 men. What’s a girl to do? Seriously!
The narrative was simple and captivating with its charming and sassy wit. Although you would think that the reader would be more interested in the stained-glass window considering that it’s the title of this book, the reader is actually more interested in who Lily chooses. Some surprising truths are revealed toward the end. This is definitely a story that keep the reader fascinated all the way, even though not everything was explained. There were still a couple of things that were just left hanging in the fray like the dreams of the tattoo and how the great aunt got this house. Another thing was that the character didn’t put any effort into solving the mystery of the stained-glass window. It just all unfolded by itself to her, which abated the thrill a little.
Overall, this was an interesting read, and I look forward to see what the author comes up with next.

EXCERPT
The tunnel was tight and narrow, warm after the night air, and not dark as it should have been, but rosy with the light bleeding from her pores. A second trispiral was carved several yards in on one of the massive upright stones. She didn’t need to touch it to see it was also connected to Angus. It throbbed with a heart’s beat.
A trispiral on the outside, then this one within. Newgrange wasn’t a bubble, it was an airlock. With a third trispiral on his chest, Angus was the key. She frowned. A key on a chain. He might be free of the silvery binding keeping his people within the earth, but the cord linking him to the trispirals kept him permanently tethered.
The chamber within seemed much larger without a crowd. The walls and crude domed ceiling roared in her mind’s eye with the cherry-red of a furnace. A rounded belly of earth, a tunnel for a shaft of light to penetrate...
This is a womb.
From it, Angus had been reborn.
Granddad had told her Angus had been released from Tir na nÓg for a reason and he was right. Angus had vowed to lead the Tuatha Dé Danann to freedom. When his people had sent him into the earth, they’d sealed him into Newgrange—the most prominent and renowned of all the hollow hills in Ireland. He’d gone in first and come out first, making it across the divide on a one-way ticket. If she had it right, Breda and His Assholeship could come and go both ways, but only in spirit. Nobody else got a pass. Well, maybe on Halloween, if tradition held true, but it wasn’t a permanent visa to stay.
Yet Angus claimed he couldn’t lead without being
Chief and he couldn’t be Chief because he’d given her his heart. Excuses. He didn’t want to lead what his people had become. He saw them as a threat. It was telling that his prison should also be his sanctuary.
Angus had the strength, but no will to fight.
Erin could fight, but hadn’t the strength to win. Until now.
If I’m this juiced, he has to be drained.
Fine then. She’d do the job for him. Get it over and done. While she had his power, she was going to wield it for a noble cause. Not just freedom for Angus. Freedom, too, for the people he owed. Once released, there would be no need for Manann and Breda to enforce their curse. Angus could get on with living, free of his past, and she could get on with her own life, happy in the knowledge she’d repaid her debt.
Once she broke the seal, everyone got out of jail.

Lucifer's Triangle
by N. S. Wikarski
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
GENRE: Thriller (Historical Elements)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
BLURB:
In a city where belief means everything, putting your faith in the wrong person can get you killed.
THE TROVE CHRONICLES
A Series for Fans of Archaeology Adventure, Alternative History Thrillers, and Treasure Hunt Mysteries
A myth-busting adventure series pitting patriarchy against buried history in artifact hunts that span continents, centuries, and lost civilizations. Meet the Arkana: a secret society of antiquarians devoted to unearthing the buried past of humanity. Continent by continent and dig site by dig site, they have amassed troves of evidence that overturn history as we know it. Follow their ongoing adventures in The Trove Chronicles.
Volume 1 - LUCIFER’S TRIANGLE
Arkana agents Cassie and Griffin are sent to Jordan for a standard retrieval mission. What could go wrong? When a colleague’s nephew is murdered, the teen’s death leads to a suicide bomb plot and a conspiracy that could plunge the Middle East into war for decades to come. The entire Arkana team springs into action to counter a threat unlike anything they’ve ever faced before. That’s because they’ll have to square off against a villain as devious as the devil himself, who wants nothing more than to see Jerusalem go up in flames.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Excerpt One:
Of course, he knew how deceiving appearances could be. He himself was living proof of that adage. Anyone who chanced to notice him would see an average-looking, thirty-something businessman with dark hair and a neatly trimmed goatee. One might easily assume he worked in an office nearby. That assessment was partially true. He was a businessman, and he was about to start his workday. However, he didn’t follow a profession as mundane as banking or law. His true vocation lay in stirring up trouble, and he was a master of his craft. After their last successful venture, Akeem had taken to calling him an agent provocateur. He liked the title. It had a certain bygone elegance to it.
Aside from that colorful descriptor, most of his current contacts knew him as Lucifer. He realized the pseudonym was a ridiculous cliche. Still, he liked the flair of it. He valued flair because it was the one trait that someone in his line of work couldn’t afford to display. That was ironic since his current venture might amplify his fame to legendary proportions among his prospective clientele. But he was getting ahead of himself. He needed to arrange all the details first. Lucifer had already zeroed in on some toy soldiers who would be perfect for this mission. Next, he needed to muster them and get them marching in the right direction before Akeem would feel inclined to greenlight his proposal.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Review: This story kind of had a slow and complex beginning as it dived into the different religious sectors of Jerusalem. The narrative was rich with detail, which painted the setting rather well; however, it can get too intricate and cluttered.
The whole thing was very slow for me. Only when the mission starts coming to light does it start to get a little interesting. We got murder, bombs, and some twisted conspiracy in the Middle East. It’s got adventure and history, making it like an Indiana Jones tale, which was kind of cool. The drawback was having to re-read some chapters a few times as the plot can be rather complex.
Overall, this was a good, solid effort and a fairly nice read.

Blog Tour: AN AMISH CHRISTMAS STAR by Charlotte Hubbard
An Amish Christmas Star
by Charlotte Hubbard
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
GENRE: Inspirational Romance (Amish)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
BLURB:
The crisp fragrance of pine trees and the warm spice of fresh cookies aren’t the only blessings that Christmas brings, and no one knows more about happy homecomings than three couples who are celebrating the greatest gift of all . . .
STAR OF WONDER by Charlotte Hubbard
When Raymond Overholt comes to Promise Lodge, hoping to sell the barnboard signs he’s painted with stars and Christmas messages, spirited young Mennonite Lizzie Zehr is intrigued. But any courtship between them will face fierce opposition from the bishop of Raymond’s Old Order community—unless someone can convince him that at the heart of faith lies love . . .
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Excerpt One:
After a deadly dull Monday morning of filling small plastic containers with colored sugars and Christmas jimmies, Lizzie Zehr loaded them onto her wheeled cart and headed into the main room of Promise Lodge’s new bulk store. It was boring work, all that scooping and labeling—repetitive and downright lonely, being stuck back in the warehouse by herself.
But compared to slaving in her older sister Maria’s bakery or, for years before that, running the household for their eldest, crippled sister, Malinda, it was a piece of cake.
And because Dale Kraybill was paying her, it was freedom. This job was her ticket to independence, an escape from the two bossy sisters who’d been running her ragged for most of her eighteen years. Their parents had passed when she was very young, so Lizzie’s sisters had raised her as best they could—and they expected her to be grateful. She was, of course. But she was also really tired of being at their beck and call.
Lizzie’s thoughts shifted into a higher gear the moment she spotted the guy who was talking to Dale. The two fellows were hanging wooden signboards, which caught her eye because of their sparkly gold stars—but the shimmer of their glittery paint paled the moment the younger fellow turned around. In his green paisley shirt, red jeans, and backswept black hair, he looked anything but Plain, and when he met her gaze through his red-framed glasses, Lizzie immediately knew they were soul mates. Like her, this free spirit was gnashing at the bit and refusing to conform to the religious limitations he’d been raised with.
Like her, he wanted out.
“Hey there,” he said. His voice, barely audible from across the cavernous room, spoke volumes to Lizzie’s restless heart.
Afraid to say something stupid, she merely nodded and held his gaze. She heard the secretive whisper of soft, small objects hitting a hard surface—or maybe it was the feathery swishing of angels’ wings—
“Lizzie, watch what—you’re spilling jimmies all over the floor!” Dale cried out.
She blinked. She had no memory of picking up a container, just as she didn’t realize she’d been squeezing it so tightly that the lid had popped off. The sight of red and green jimmies bouncing off her bare feet—she wore flip-flops year-round to show off her painted toenails—was suddenly the funniest thing she’d ever seen. As Lizzie sprinted into the warehouse for a broom, her laughter filled the store.
Her life was finally taking a turn for the better. She just knew it.
My name is Ella McAllister, I’m a psychic witch and a healer. My life is kinda nuts. Not only do I have the Coletti hunters chasing me, but now I also have a very determined Askole High Commander after me. Why? I shot his ship down and it crash landed, and it blew up. Yep, itty-bitty pieces everywhere. My bad, but his ship was a dead ringer for a Rodan Marauder, and it was my civic duty to blow the enemy spacecraft out of the sky. Wasn’t it? Any hoo, I healed his owies and boogied.
I thought that was the end of it, but oh no. For some unknown reason, Sariel, the Askole High Commander, decided I would make him the perfect mate. As if. I think the blow to his head made him completely bonkers.
Sariel informed me the mating dance had begun and there was nothing I could do to stop it. The idiot had obviously never dealt with a witch before. I didn’t have the time to play games with him, so I did a little abracadabra alakazam and ran.
Sigh. The persistent Askole found me. Now I have a decision to make. Keep running or surrender to the High Commander. He is a damn good kisser.
Would the mating dance bring two lonely souls together? Who knew?
Read an Excerpt:
Sariel abruptly changed the subject. “I had armor made for you.”
That got my attention. “Did you?” Since I was heading for the Wild West of the galaxy, body armor would come in handy. “What’s the catch?”
Amusement lit Sariel’s eyes. “So suspicious.”
“You bet your ass I am. What’s the catch?”
“A simple kiss and the armor is yours.” Sariel’s big hand cupped my ass.
Geeze, he was like an octopus. I removed his hand. “That’s it?”
“Yes.”
“Uh huh.” The sneaky bastard was planning something, but what? I kissed his chin. “There you go. Where’s my armor.
Sariel laughed. “A real kiss with tongue.”
I really wanted that armor. I pressed my lips to his and took small, careful tastes of his mouth. I didn’t want to impale myself on his fangs. Yep, Sariel definitely tasted like cinnamon. A wild, edgy excitement tore through me as our tongues tangled in a slow, sensual dance.
Sariel caught my chin in his hand and the hot friction of his mouth had me vibrating with pure, undiluted need. He was a fever in my blood. I burned for him. I had a sudden, overpowering need to fuck Sariel blind. No! No! No! This was bad on so many levels. I had to stop this before I did something stupid. “Stop! You’ve got your kiss. Where is my armor?”
“Obstinate to the end. Your former lover has much to answer for.”
About the Author:
I was a 9-1-1 dispatcher for the Glendale Police Department and to keep from going totally bonkers – I mean people have no idea what a real emergency is. Take this for example: I answered, “9-1-1 emergency, what’s your emergency?” And this hysterical woman yelled, “My bird is in a tree.” Sometimes I really couldn’t help myself, so I said, “Birds have a tendency to do that, ma’am.” The woman screeched, “No! You don’t understand. My pet parakeet is in the tree. I’ve just got to get him down.” Like I said, not a clue. “I’m sorry ma’am but we don’t get birds out of trees.” The woman then cried, “But… What about my husband? He’s up there, too.” See what I had to deal with? To keep from hitting myself repeatedly in the head with my phone I took up writing. Website
GENRE: regency romance
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
BLURB:
Follow the gentlemen of the Tenet Club— an elusive group of noblemen that investigates crimes committed by the nobility—on a rousing journey of romance, suspense, and a guaranteed happily-ever-after.
Viscount Langdon is torn between duty and desire. After his father’s death, he has every intention of resigning from the Tenet club when he meets Mrs. Adare. The lively widow with a knack for trouble piques more than his curiosity, and he agrees to one last assignment.
Mrs. Elizabeth Adare is on a mission to bring a smuggler to justice, and nobody is going to get in her way, not even Lord Langdon. With the aid of the maddening, yet intriguing lord, she follows the clues to a troubling discovery; one that could expose her own secrets.
After the investigation takes an unexpected turn, Elizabeth must choose between revealing the truth of her past and losing Langdon or allowing a murderer to go free.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Excerpt One:
“I hardly think listing your positive attributes is the best use of our time.” Elizabeth’s voice came out more husky than was comfortable. Every nerve inside her body screamed yes to Langdon’s flirtatious question. She squashed the unwelcome sensation. A few moments ago, he was berating her in a less than pleasant manner. What a contradiction he was: a man with many layers. If she knew him for a lifetime, would she uncover them all?
“What a pity.” Low laughter rumbled from him. He was standing close enough for the heat of his body to infiltrate her thin dress.
Elizabeth tried not to inhale the scent of sandalwood and man that invaded senses already heightened by the night's illicit activities. She resisted the urge to rest back against him and lay her head on his shoulder.
He had been rather abrupt with her, and by all rights she should be in a snit over his earlier callousness.
Should be.
But she found herself drawn to him regardless of his surliness. He kept her on her toes, and she enjoyed their back and forth no matter how contentious. “I need a few more minutes to look.”
