I'm guessing you mean my life as a writer and then my family life? If so, they exist simultaneously. I don't consider them as two separate things, because writing is such a big part of me. Sometimes I have to work it into a schedule so that I don't let it overtake all of my time, but my family and friends are all so supportive that I'm lucky to be able to embrace my writership as part of my everyday. :D(less)

I knew that I wanted to be very true to the original work, so my first step was to go out and buy a copy of Alice and Wonderland and proceed to mark it up like I was writing a research paper. As I read, I found the parts that would work well with the twist that I wanted to add in and made sure that I found a way to work them specifically into my outline. From there, it was almost like connecting the dots to make the plot a seamless storyline.(less)

Books and Cookies: Cinder

It probably comes as no surprise, but as a retelling author myself, I hold a VERY special place in my heart for twisty fairy tales. The magic, the romance, I can’t get enough.  So, as you can imagine, whenever I see a new retelling come around, I basically just tell the booksellers ‘Give me my […]

“How doth the little crocodile improve his shining tall, and pour the waters of the Nile on every golden scale.” His eyes flicked meaningfully from the book to Alice before he continued. “How cheerfully he seems to grin, how neatly spreads his claws, and welcomes little fishes in, with gently smiling jaws.”
J.M. Sullivan, Alice

“You have a friend named Bug?”

“Sure. Why wouldn’t I?” Chess asked. “I have another friend who keeps telling me to call her Alice even though I give her way better names— which is even weirder if you ask me.” He gave her a pointed look.”
J.M. Sullivan, Alice

“But which way do I go from here?” she wondered, searching the unfamiliar city.

“That depends a great deal on where you want to go,”
