Born in New York City and transplanted to the South in high school, Kathy Manos Penn lives with her husband and their four-legged family in Dunwoody, Georgia, where she taught high school English before embarking on a career in banking. She is now happily retired from the corporate world but has no plans to retire from the joyful job of writing.

Fast forward past college and teaching to banking, where her manager discovered she could write. The rest, as they say, is history. Her love of writing led to a side job as a columnist for the local paper, and "The Ink Penn" is a collection of her favorite columns.

Her second book, the humorous "Lord Banjo the Royal Pooch," was co-written with her dog and inspired by Lord Banjo's Doggy DNA results.

Perhaps because I just returned from a vacation in France, I would choose St. Denis, France, the fictional village where Chief of Police Bruno lives and works in Martin Walker's marvelous series.

I see myself living in a small home in walking distance of town, where I'd start the morning with a visit to the cafe for a croissant and coffee, greeting everyone I met along the way. Then I'd return home to write, with my dog at my feet and a cat in the window. Hopefully, I'd learn French and learn to cook some of the tasty dishes I read about in the books. My small yard would be filled with herbs and flowers. Sounds perfect to me!(less)

I can only imagine what it must be like to write a full-length work of fiction. Even with Lord Banjo's short book (which my publisher insists is fiction, though every bit of it happened), I did not suffer writer's block.(less)

Mum may have to cease reading me excerpts from the newspaper because some of the stories are quite disturbing.  I mean I’ve heard people say that reading the paper is plain ol’ depressing, but this latest story has got me bummed.
Have you heard that people worry about robots taking over the world a la the Terminator movies?  I’m sure you’ve read articles about robots doing folks out of their... Read more of this blog post »
