Fill Up: A short suspense thriller – Out now!

Fill up: A short suspense thriller by [Kent, Jonathan]

From Jonathan Kent, author of ‘The Shael Chronicles’ and the best selling Amazon short story ‘The Waiting Room’, comes ‘Fill up’, a short, suspenseful thriller.

After a string of bad luck, Sean was grateful for the ‘gift’ of a car from his high-flying brother. The only problem was it was in London, which meant a last minute, hastily arranged road trip – something his eight year old daughter was desperate to go on.

After a nightmare return journey, they were nearly home, when a stop to ‘fill up’ was interrupted by a horrific turn of events. Whilst Rosie sleeps on, Sean is faced with a terrible dilemma.

What would you do if you were faced with only bad options?

In the shade (by Jacob Stanley) - I wish it was longer

35265142

This short story by Jacob Stanley was an interesting read. You were sucked into the story from the start and the author didn't take long to get to the crux of the story involving a kind of plant enhanced resurrection procedure.

Although the elder brother character of Harold was a little one dimensional (we have seen this kind of mad scientist in countless horror stories) I got his motivations for the experiments he was performing.

It was just darn short........

There was enough ideas in the 50 pages to fill a full novel. I would love to learn more about the brothers relationship and where the original idea for the 'resurrection' procedure came from. Something akin to 'Revival' by Stephen King where the story builds over the years.

The ending had a nice twist, but with more deeply drawn characters, it would have had much more impact.

I am going to check out more of the authors work as this short was simply bursting with ideas.

The Waiting Room - Five Star reviews

35156528

Some great reviews for my short story 'The Waiting Room'.

"I really enjoyed the short story 'The Waiting Room'. The premise is a simple one, and the reader is clued in to what is going on before the clueless protagonist, Gary works it out for himself. Darkly humorous and also kind of sad, this is an interesting read which won't take too long but isn't over too quickly you get no plot or character development. I thought it was great!" ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

"I really enjoyed this short story. I'd love it if the author wrote a longer one or series along this line. This was a lucky find, off to read some of his other work now" ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

"I actually liked the story though I knew the premise from the start. I found the handling of the story hybridised some story lines from Tales from the Crypt and Defending Your Life. Yet the approach was fresh. The ending was a surprise because it did not take the obvious course and there were some minor twists that I had not seen before. I won't reveal them because I want to encourage others to read it. I am interested in reading more from Jonathan Kent and do recommend not only the story but the author." ⭐⭐⭐⭐

"That was a great story. A little creepy, it kind of put me in mind of Twilight zone. I hope he continues to write good books." ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

"Very good story! I'm sure to read more by this author, in fact I've just downloaded homecoming & I can't wait to start it!" ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

"Very good short story. Made me think a bit differently about what to do about insects!" ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Thank you to everyone who has downloaded the story, you guys make it all worthwhile....

All the best,

Jonathan

The Line Unseen (by Joe Hart) short story review

17884312

The thing I find great about Amazon KDP is the ability to 'stumble' upon new authors. The self published route can be a little hit & miss, but you do come across some little gems. The really good thing is most self-published authors are looking to get their name out there rather than make their fortune, meaning there are some fantastic short stories and novellas totally free!

Case in point is this little ditty 'The Line Unseen' by Joe Hart. Its only 28 pages long, free to download and was an enjoyable 30 minute read. The premise started strongly with a man 'accidently' killing another man who had been 'seeing' his wife. Took a couple of neat turns and then went somewhere I wasn't expecting at the end. I will definitely be checking out some of this authors longer works as he has a nice turn of phrase. This wasn't the most original story I will ever read, but it kept me engaged throughout and finished strongly - just what a short story should do!

Well worth checking out....

Outpost (by Joe Hart) short story review

16101761

Another great short story from Joe Hart. Reminded me a little of 'Dreamcatcher' by Stephen King. I loved the premise of the four guys fishing in the Canadian wilderness. For such a short tale, the author did a great job of bringing out each characters personalities - I think all of us know an obnoxious 'Don'!

This was a great little short read and for fans of icky monster horror - this will be right up your street. The author has a great rhythm to his writing which draws you in to the story from the start. It's one of those you simply have to read in one sitting. Going to check out some of his longer works now...

Delivery Man - A story to divide the crowd?

35439094

Delivery Man is a bit of a departure for me and I'm conscious this story may divide the crowd. However, I thought I would give some sort of insight as to where this story has come from.

My head is still in the fantastical world of 'Shael' as I begin work on the third novel in the series, but this one has been chipping away in my ear for a few months. It's not autobiographical in any way, but there is probably more of 'me' in this story than any of my others. I think all of us live in fear of our lives imploding and losing it all - this story kind of blossomed from there. The path to rebuild a shattered life can be a huge uphill struggle and woe-betide anyone who stands in the way of a man putting the pieces back together!

I do hope you enjoy reading this tale. It's probably a little longer than I originally intended as once I got into the mindset of 'Robert' I didn't want to let go. I was eager to see exactly how far 'he' would go and believe me, even I was surprised.

Thanks for reading

Jonathan...

Delivery Man - OUT NOW!

35439094

Limited time new release price of £0.99

"When times are dark, you cling onto whatever light you can, no matter how twisted"

From Jonathan Kent, author of 'The Shael Chronicles' and the best selling Amazon short story 'The Waiting Room', comes 'Delivery Man', a dark, twisted psychological thriller.

In the space of four months, Robert Townsend lost his wife, his kids, his job and his house. When a bleary clarity finally returned, he knew he had to try and put the remains of his life back together. Taking up a position as a 'Delivery Assistant' in a local supermarket should have been just the tonic he needed to start the road to recovery, but what he hadn't accounted for was the sadistic boss he found himself working for. As the personal conflict escalates beyond his control, he is left with two very clear options: quit or stand up for himself.
God knows why he chose the latter.

'Delivery Man' shows exactly how far a man can go when pushed to the limit.
