This book admittedly took a bit of time to get into. The plot started out just a little slow, and it took time to get used to the very long descriptions used. However, I was e" Read more of this review »

“There was a time when I used to be proud of being a Faerie. Now, not so much. I think I will hide the ends of my ears that finish in a crisp point and stoop when I walk and let my eyes turn from a pretty swirling green to a sludgy black. I am quite sad about it all Ib. One tear might bring forth a flood so I’ll not hazard a single squirt in case we are all washed away in the aftermath for I am not one for swimming and neither I think are you.”

– The Good Faerie Jasper Wintergreen commonly heard to lament at the loss of Old Faerie.”
Florien St John

“On hairpins Lady Devonshire, I am always happy to do with a few less than is commonly thought, on hunting knives for one’s own protection,” Verity paused, tugged at and with some effort extracted both of her weapons from the corpses at her feet, and turned to the assembled group by the chaise-lounge, wiped the blades on her champagne gold dress now covered in fire ash and fresh blood and hiking the sides of said dress, exposing more than modesty should allow of her thighs, slammed them both home into their sheaths.

“One is never enough I have heard it said. Two I have found are always better.”
Florien St John

“Are you suggesting Captain that a Faerie might have wings? Like a bird? That’s preposterous. Why, think of all that effort flapping one’s arms getting from point A to point B when with just a small amount of magic, one could achieve the very same result. Without the flapping. Next, you will have us in nests gathering worms and shiny things. I’d be very embarrassed for any Faerie so tiny it must fly about like an insect, building tiny houses in the exposed roots of trees, dressed in nothing but Butterbell trousers. Have you ever worn Butterbell trousers Ib? Of course you haven’t. No one has. I am not sure who is responsible for creating such an idle fantasy. Perhaps one of your literature types? There is nothing worse than a writer, who when they have nothing to write of consequence, find themselves seduced by the temptation to expostulate on what could or might be, instead of what is!” -”
