Skystitching

Clouds were moving fast the other day. I saw the needle that threaded them.

Virgo Olympus – Rehashed

This one is the heavy hitter of 2014. THE poem of mine that was first ever published in something I didn’t put out, or was a part of putting out. Virgo Olympus. And it’s layered, and it’s angsty, and it’s broody, and it’s fucking perfect.

Virgo Olympus – Text

Virgo Olympus was the culmination of a lot of teenaged bullshit that got all wrapped up into a nice set of 21 stanzas. I wasn’t into drama, drugs, alcohol, skipping class, or any of that junk when I was in high school. Nothing too out of...

Idle Nowhere

Piloting all day
Through passes
And mountains

Dense woods
And hills
Giving way
To a plains

Where the grass
Is dead
Unless it follows
Flowing water

Couldn’t stop
At the edge
We had to tilt
Into the valley

Where valley people
Have so little
To do but build
Their own cities

Harvest their amnenities

Side Kicked Out – Journal 10/11/17

I’ll be adding “Endearing Sidekick” to the list of tropes I’ll certainly be avoiding. Boy, am I peeved. New Star Wars trailer, right, right? Fucking cool, right?

No! Fuck that Star Wars trailer! Everything was going just great until they did that thing that every slightly family friendly IP has to fucking do these days! They introduce an objectively cute, smaller character who’s sole purpose is to be just that. Cute and small. Fuck. They had to do it.

Let’s talk about this “porg” thing just a...

Zen Ana

Idea weapons
From legends of old

Slaying demons
Thinking they are so bold

This night is ensured
To grow as legends do
Telling the story
Of demons went through

Maybe I’ll be legendary

A star-writ story
Carved from enduring today

A threshold here
Defending you

Against a horde
Of demons I would

Do whatever
It could take

To become legend
Leaving stars in your sky

To become
Another footnote
In someone
Else’s book

At the bottom
Of a page
I’ll be an
Asterisk

To explain

What I did
And my name

What de...

Shoot the Sky – Journal 10/10/17

Had something happen to me today that totally caught me off guard.

So in one of my classes this quarter, my professor is making use of a Jackbox-style party game trivia thing maker. Basically, teacher makes a quiz, puts it online, everyone can connect to it on their phone and participate in a trivia game.

When you do this, you can choose a username. Among other humorous queries I could have started building tension with, I decided to simply use my twitter handle @jakethomasshaw. If you alread...

Paddling out
Leaning with
My kayak

Just want to be
In this place
That seems free

Just want to
Capture actuality
In this
Lake of glass
Before
It passes

It’s taken some time
Since the
Second shot
To arrive

But we have seen
Eden

Once more

Just want
To capture it
From its
Center

Because we don’t know
When next time is
But we’re here
Armed and aware

We look unto eden
Once more

Look to the mountains to see the yin/yang of change. Content and zen with the alterations.

Cirrusfury

Mountains cut clouds
When they sink

Threatening to spill
Rainflesh from shore

Like the world’s
Stiletto stabbing

Through the ribs of ether
Letting rain

A pacifying hurricane
And eye of tension

Where jagged summits
Cut deep

All around the thunderwall
Where the rainflesh wound

Harrows
Opening deeper

As the eye moves

Held Up A Ruin – Journal 10/8/17

Far beyond all I know is a me five years from now who has an idea of the world he’s in command of. Someone a far cry from who I am now.

Five years ago, I was going to San Gorgonio High School. Knowing I was going to move soon in December. December 2012, we made the journey from there to here in Cascadia.

Cold Cascadia. My home. Yet in nearly 11 days I will be back in the old country. A ruin. I wonder what advice I’d give 15 year old, unsure of this whole move me.

Before all the discoveries....
