Although it may sound strange, when it comes to writing, the voice inside my head is that of a teenage boy. I'm sure my own sons are an influence, but one of my female friends has always said I'm a guy inside because of my interests and the way I think - I loathe shopping (unless it's a book store or electronics), 'chick flicks' generally bore me and I prefer 'guy' movies, and I've always told my husband if he ever felt the urge to get me flowers, make it a Best Buy gift card instead. While writing Sarah, Cain and Finn's voices came much easier to me than Lindsey or even Sarah. My next book involves teenage twin brothers, so I suspect my MCs will always be male.(less)

Eby is almost as cool as the cat he was based on - but not quite. Cain and Finn really came to life for me after I interviewed them and discovered things I didn't know. I always knew they had a strong bond, but not how it had developed exactly. Cain was usually more quiet and awkward, while Finn could be thrown into almost any situation and come out on top - and the things that fell out of his mouth were surprising and hilarious at times. But as the story progressed, I thought Cain developed into a more confident person because of what he experienced. The conversations between the two of them played out in my head effortlessly and I couldn't type the words fast enough. They just took on a life of their own.(less)

Didn’t hit my word count goal on the WIP last week – but both of my sons were here for the weekend and that takes priority over everything else.  The upside is the new character who announced himself over a week ago is talking a lot, so I’m hoping to double my word count goal for this week.

If you remember about a month ago, my oldest son rescued a kitten he named[image error] Sora.  This weeken...

Teri and 3 other people liked Darque Dreamer 's review of Sarah:
Sarah by Teri Polen
"Sarah was a refreshing take on YA and ghost stories. With an emotional story line, and strong characters, it was gripping from the beginning! It was creepy and hard hitting, and definitely stuck with me.

I knew the moment I saw the cover, and read..." Read more of this review »

I've read several books by this author, and his extensive imagination astounds me.  A yak teaching a man basic survival skills and how to become a better person?  Definitely a unique concept.

Generally, coming of age stories apply to teens, but it's
