I'm happy to say that I have never had writer's block, or at least I ONCE could say that. When we got this first book done and off to the editors, I was so happy! We did it! But when the notes from the developmental editor came back I was gobsmacked to find that she hated my part of the book. She felt I was coming from the wrong perspective. Boy, that hurt! She wanted to cut me out of the book!! (At least that was my drama emotional reaction!) But after I calmed down and re-read the notes she said she wanted me to come from the 'teacher' perspective. Something I was so against! It threw me into a tailspin. I was shut down for about 2 months. I couldn't write a thing that came from that perspective. That change made me have to rewrite the entire book - at least the parts that were about me.
I cried and begged my guide a lot during that time (to help me) but he just sat back and said, "This is your deal, Kym, you have to move past your resistance to making a public statement that you are a teacher." Ok Timingo, thanks for nothing. But he was right, it wasn't pretty. But after rewriting the entire thing it was so much better and it's exactly what the book needed. The editor was right.
To be honest, I have great compassion for anyone that has to deal with writer's block, it really sucks. There is nothing you can do to force it. But you need to know, it's some block in you that is causing it. You're crossing some threshold.(less)
