In the Shadow of the Witch Dark Tunes Part 1

The dark tunes that inspired,In the Shadow of the Witch - Part 1

Coma Witch by The Acacia Strain

The inspiration for, In the Shadow of the Witch, came from listening to this album. Ive been listening to this band for a while and all of their music is heavy, atmospheric, and angry. But I found this album to be in a whole new category all its own. The 27 minute epic Observer begins with the chittering of nocturnal insects dropping your psyche into a dark desolate forest at night. The guitars

What's Next?

The new book was released ... Now What?

I'm proud of, In the Shadow of the Witch. Its too early to tell how it will be received by the reading public or how it will do commercially. But putting that aside for a moment and reflecting on what has been done, I am confident in saying that it was the story I wanted to tell and how I wanted to tell it. I was able to examine and extricate some dark thoughts and through my emotional character surrogates (who carried the burden of those thoughts) was

In the Shadow of the Witch playlist

In the Shadow of the Witch - Playlist

For those of you reading the book I've put together a playlist that I believe serves as a good soundtrack to the novel. The music was chosen from the dark tunes that inspired the story's creation.

Chapter 1
Observer, The Acacia Strain

Chapter 2
The Monster in Every Man, Through Lifeless Eyes
In our Blood, YOB

Chapter 3
In our Blood (continued)
The wreck of the S.S. Needle, Cult of Luna
Ghost Trail, Cult of Luna

Chapter 4
Hall of the Dead, ISIS

Horn & Dagger Sketches

Horn & Dagger Sketches

I often find myself sketching while I'm trying to picture the characters or concepts in my novels.

The last picturewas supplied by my daughter Trinity who wanted to get in on creating art for the book. I was surprised to findthat her Unicorn looksangry andscary. Don't know where she would have gotten that from :)

October Reading List

October Reading List

Was not able to read as much fiction as I usually do. I'm behind on my Wired subscription and had to make it through more than six months of back issues.

Jerusalem, Alan Moore - This is a long book and I love reading it but I find that I'm reading a chapter and taking a break. I have a feeling this will be on the list for a while.
High Rise, J.G. Ballard- Ballard has a great writing style. I wrote a review on Goodreads. You can check it out from my author page on

October Listening List

October Listening List

A lot of great music came out in October. Meshuggah's, Violent Sleep of Reason had me entranced for weeks but I was able to fit in some other albums before and after.

Meshuggah, The Violent Sleep of Reason - I won't even try to describe how awesome this album is. It will need more more individualized attention in a future post and/or Dark Tune column.
Mouth of the Architect, Path of Eight - Awesome. Need to devote more time to this as well.
Korn, The Serenity of

Mushrooms, Wormholes and Unicorns - Part 2

Mushroom, Wormholes and Unicorns Part 2
The Dark Thoughts that inspired Horn and Dagger

Wormholes and Black Holes

Anyone who has read my other novels, The Strands and In the Shadow of the Witch, will immediately recognize that I have a fascination with the concept of black holes and wormholes. With my inability to let this fascination go it shows up again in, Horn and Dagger. Am I done with it now? Doubt it. The idea that a black hole is the garbage truck of the universe, a force

Mushrooms, Wormholes and Unicorns
The Dark Thoughts that inspired Horn and Dagger: Part 1

I have written specifically on how music has influenced the creation of my novels and of, Horn and Dagger, in particular on the Dark Tunes page of www.darkrevmedia.com. However, many of these ideas were seeded long before the music gave it a form. In other cases the story was further modified by something I learned during the writing process. It may seem odd the way these influences fit together (I know

Darkta, Illukta, Illumika - New Names for Ancient Ideas

Darkta, Illukta, Illumika New names for Ancient Ideas
The spiritual terms of,In the Shadow of the Witch

A few people have asked me if the terms darkta, illukta, and illumika which appeared in, In the Shadow of the Witch, occur in any of the mystical or philosophical literature Ive read. To my knowledge they do not. I chose to create new terms to represent the concepts I was trying to express. I did this primarily because I can find it difficult to understand what an author is
