Been Too Long!
Between my day job, the holidays and focusing on the second draft of Horn and Dagger I haven't had a chance to post any new material on either the blog or the website. However, I have been listening to a lot of new music this month and will post the monthly listening list and reading list before the end of the week.
In addition I've been working on an essay for Dark Thoughts that is quite outside of my norm covering topics such as materialism, perfectionism and learning to be happy with

Dealing with Writer's Block
A few techniques I use to get over writer's block.
You know that feeling. You are staring at a white page or a white screen. The pen hovers over a sea of white or the cursor blinks as an annoying reminder that it is still waiting for you to start typing waiting waiting. You feel locked up, a word pops in your mind you write it down stupid you cross it out. Nothing. Blinking. Hovering. Frustrating.

Writers Write ... Right?
What qualifications do you need tocall yourself awriter?
I used to ask this question of myself often. What criteria do I have to meet to call myself a writer? Is it how many times I've been published, how often or long I write, how commercially successful I am or the number of good reviews I receive? I was worried about a lot of these things. In many ways it became a block to my creativity because I thought that if I had to publish to be writer then I had to write those things that could be

When the Story Wont Materialize
What do you do when the story you've been thinking about won't materialize?
Have you ever had the experience where an idea for a story is floating around in your head and you know it could lead somewhere but it doesnt? It seems that no matter what you do the full story wont materialize. This happens to me a lot. In an attempt to capture and cage these ideas Ive written hundreds of thousands of pages of beginnings and middles, endings, character sketches, etc. with the hope of advancing a

November Reading List
November Reading List

Ive spent a lot of time writing this month. After finishing the first draft of,Horn and Dagger, I immediately moved into typing mode. As a result I have not spent as much time reading this month.
Here is the list:
Jerusalem by Alan Moore Yes its on the list again. I read a few more chapters and then took a break. It is a wonderful book so Im savoring it.
The Room by Hubert Selby Jr.
The Builders by Daniel Polansky

Horn and Dagger Dark Tunes Part 2
Horn & Dagger Dark Tunes Part 2
The Violent Sleep of Reason by Meshuggah
Awesome! Only thing I listened to after the release date for a few weeks. Pre-ordered the limited edition box set with the mask and then followed that up with seeing them in Concert at the Starland Ballroom.
There is a lot of sociopolitical commentary/imagery embedded in the lyrics which could apply to a myriad of historical events or to yesterdays news depending on your point of view. I think Meshuggah did a good

Completed First Draft of Horn and Dagger
The First Draft of Horn and Dagger is Complete
I just completed the first draft of, Horn and Dagger. As most of you may already know my first draft is handwritten in a journal so now I have to begin the painful process of deciphering my cryptic handwriting and typing everything into Word. I'll do some adds and editing during this process as well. This second phase is one of the longest phases of putting the book together and can take even longer than the first draft. If you are wondering what

In the Shadow of the Witch Dark Tunes Part 2
Here is the music I enjoyed while working onthe second draft of, In the Shadow of the Witch.

Mariner by Cult of Luna
JulieChristmas!I loved her in Battle of Mice and love her even more here. Her voice runs through her entire range on this album. This was released just as I was finishing up the first draft and upon hearing her voice this immediately became one of my favorite Cult of Luna albums. At times she can sound like a child
