The Voices Project
Denise Powell, founding editor at
The Voices Project
contacted me today to say my poem 'Prospector' will be published in November 2018. I'll update you when it goes live.
The Voices Project describes themselves as "a non-judgmental venue for women, and also men, to express their personal stories and observations through poetry to promote social change. We publish the work of writers in the United States and international community no matter what their age or background, who might not otherwise have opportunities to share their stories. The hope is to bring the voices of these individuals forward, providing a creative pathway leading to growth and empowerment, and in turn affecting everything within their lives. Although our main focus is on women's literature, we do publish (and celebrate!) the voices of men, as it's important we are all a part of the conversation and mission."
Since I am (rather emphatically) a feller, I am doubly happy they included me. Stay tuned for news in November.

Georgia Writers Registry
I am happy to announce that I have been accepted on the
Georgia Writers Registry
. The nontrivial vetting process included an evaluation of credentials by a peer review panel based on a writing sample and the following criteria:
Artistic Merit
Artistic Excellence
Publication Points
So, the next time you need a roguishly handsome, chiseled specimen of masculinity for your literary event, call someone else. If you need a semi-competent writer, look me up. My fees are reasonable, and I bathe regularly.

Tall Tales
But I know the neighborhood
And talk is cheap when the story is good
And the tales grow taller on down the line...
~REO Speedwagon - Take It On The Run (1980)
I am ecstatic to report that Tall Tales Books in Atlanta has agreed to carry two of my books: 'Roaming Outward' (2017) and 'We May Learn' (2018).
I am also arranging a reading date, so stay tuned for event info.
They have a wonderfully clean, bright store, perfect for browsing. And Rebekah will be happy to hook you up. Tell her you heard it from a friend who heard it from a friend.

Rat's Ass Review
I had two poems accepted for electronic and print publication in a fine, literary journal with the stodgy name of Rat's Ass Review.
These are guys after my own heart.
Roderick, the rebellious editor, says: "Rat’s Ass Review is an online poetry journal whose editorial fancies are no more arbitrary than any other; they are simply more overtly so. I publish what I like."
I'll let you now when my poems are ready for your furtive consumption. In the interim, check RAR out HERE .

Book Launch 'We May Learn: some decent poems'
I wanted you to see this first. Here is an excerpt from my press release...
Entering his 17th year as a published writer, Mickey Kulp is pleased to announce that his next collection of short poems, ‘We May Learn: some decent poems’, is available for your reading pleasure and personal rescue. This is a book about second chances blossoming into something unexpected. It is unafraid to go down dark alleys, but it is also ready to embrace the unalloyed contentment of dancing in the sunshine.
“I enjoyed these poems very much. Mick deals with serious topics (death, what the heck is a muse, the miracle of memory), but he brings joy and humor to them that opens those serious topics up for me, gets me thinking.”
~John Guzlowski, author of Echoes of Tattered Tongues.

Georgia’s Emerging Writers
My witty short story 'Virgin Texas' was picked for inclusion in the 2018 edition of Georgia’s Emerging Writers: An Anthology of Fiction (ISBN-13: 978-1724681942).
Z Publishing says:
"In Georgia's Emerging Writers: An Anthology of Fiction, Georgia's most promising up-and-coming authors have the chance to share their own words. Covering a wide array of genres ranging from literary fiction to satire, mystery, comedy, science fiction, and more, these young talents will amaze you. Containing one story per writer, this anthology is a compelling introduction to the great wordsmiths of tomorrow."
(Note that I am a "young talent." Don't snicker. Hey, I heard that.)
Please consider purchasing a copy HERE .

Where the Most Light Falls
I have been listening to Tamara Miles on Spirit Plants Radio. She has a show called 'Where the Most Light Falls' where she reads poetry and plays recordings of poets reading their work.
Archives are here: http://www.spiritplantsradio.com/radioarchives.html#DJTamara
She is interested in reading one of my funky, trippy poems rampant with joyful alliteration. It has already been vetted by a tough crowd of drunks and subversives (middle school teachers on summer break).
When we get the details ironed out, I'll send a link.

Spotlight
Back in March, Spillwords was kind enough to interview me for their "Spotlight on Writers" even though I assured them I was not terribly interesting. They did not listen.
