I’m a web developer with a master’s in linguistics who writes weird stories.

My biggest literary influence is Philip K. Dick, though my writing style tends more toward Neil Gaiman. I indulge in a bit of genre hopping, but my specialty is a subversive brand of surreal science fantasy known as “dreampunk”.

“I want to stand as close to the edge as I can without going over. Out on the edge you see all kinds of things you can't see from the center.” ―Kurt Vonnegut Jr.

“What sane person could live in this world and not be crazy?” ―Ursula K. Le Guin

“The answer is dreams. Dreaming on and on. Entering the world of dreams and never coming out. Living in dreams for the rest of time.” —Haruki Murakami

I've never viewed that as a "block" exactly, just part of the creative process.

My favorite solution so far has been to take long walks at night with my smartphone. I have my work in Google Docs, and when I have an idea I'll just stop walking for a sec and write directly on my phone. (Sometimes I'll actually read, edit, and write one-handed while walking, but I can't say I really recommend that.)

I think it also helps that I'm in the habit of listening to audiobooks while I walk. It helps to keep me in a certain frame of mind so that when I'm not listening to a book on one of these walks, I'll probably have an urge to write.(less)
