Paul Mathews is a quite funny British guy who's managed to escape the London rat race and is currently on the run as a comedy novelist. His sharp, satirical - often surreal - sense of humor draws on 20 years as a British Government press officer, during which time he encountered politicians, senior civil servants, and lots of other people who sucked at their jobs. He also gains inspiration from his love of pubs, good food, four-legged animals & the quirks and quibbles of British life.

His popular 'We Have Lost' comedy-thriller series set in 2040s London, starring beleaguered presidential spokesman and wannabe secret agent Howie Pond, has sold more than 25,000 copies. Paul has read all the books at least ten times and highly recommends th

If we don't restrict this to romantically-linked couples, I'm going to say Arthur Dent and Ford Prefect from the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy series. The fact they're from different planets helps accentuate the humour of their situation, as does Arthur's constant grumbling and Ford's tendency to assume Arthur knows a lot more about the universe than he actually does.

If we're talking a couple in the traditional sense, I would struggle to think of one. So, at the risk of blowing my own trumpet, I will suggest my two main characters: Howie Pond and Britt Pointer. I feel very attached to them both. And, if you've my two e-novels, you'll know that their relationship develops in the second book. I always write scenes where they both appear - and the reader sometimes sees events from both of their points of view in the same scene, which is fun to write.(less)

I can write 2,000 words in a day, if I'm using characters and locations I know well and my story structure is tight. Perhaps 1,200 to 1,500 if a little more research or character/scene development is required. But the main blocker is social media - mainly Twitter (I run five accounts) and Facebook (three accounts). I could have probably written two novels in the year it took me to write 'We Have Lost The President'! (less)
