Barbara Strickland loves Sydney, her home town, but is currently living in North Queensland. Loving travel meant some of her many experiences had to be written about. From Australia to Europe with a sojourn in Japan the second novel in The Unexpected Series (a place where love of romance and travel co-exist) is almost finished. The next one she is most excited about as it will feature a beautiful part of North Australia and a little on her hometown, Sydney.
Four poetry books and a romance series is keeping her busy for the moment but Barb has four ambitions, her books, more travel, to speak at least three

I often miss the warmth and laughter and family overload that is being Italian. I would bask in all of that and absorb the lilt of the language and the divine aroma of the food.
However in saying that I have quite a few favourite authors and I would enter their world simply because of the incredible men they create lol.(less)

This part of Africa is colourful, exciting and very different and though I originally had doubts, the experience turned out to be one of the best in my travelling life, and surprisingly safe.
One night though, the second last of our week there, my group and I went out for dinner. We decided as a group which included males (five in all), to go for a walk before heading back to our hotel and walk off what had been a veritable feast. One minute there were lots of people surrounding us and then the numbers got fewer and fewer. It was still very well lit, and it was a pleasant enough area, quite pretty really so we weren't at all worried. I was laughing at something someone had said when I got a feeling that actually froze me to the spot. I felt the colour leave my face. My stomach went queasy and it was all I could do, to get words out. I told my friends we had to go home there and then, that very moment. The strange thing was no-one argued. It was something about the way I looked that made them do exactly what I said. We turned and retraced our steps back to the restaurant and went back to the hotel.
To this day I wonder what would have happened if we had continued. A plot or not, that is an interesting question. I'm not sure I want the answer, even an imaginary one.(less)

Small stories, big ideas and it’s never my fault

One of the reasons I love the haibun is because of its ability to make a point with its brevity. Let’s face it, most of us are prone to go into details, not just writers. When I started playing around with the idea for this piece, I was thinking of all the times I have heard or seen people play the blame game. For some crazy and most likely selfish reason, we think that laying the blame elsewhere

Interesting YA

This was an interesting read with an interesting premise. Twins, totally different, a parent who seems to favour one but allows the other more freedom, a reasonable plot but a little too much teen angst for me.
Lots of blood and gore and

Delightful read

This had a lovely pace and a simple plot with very likeable characters. It is easy to see why the wolf likes our female lead and together they make a strong team against evil blood demons. Easy read.

Fun read

This had a good pace and made good use of the world of the Greek Gods. It was a fun read but nothing unexpected or new. Great read for that lazy afternoon.

A lovely read

A child growing to an adult in a world that is not what it appears, recognition against the odds and love all factor into this novel and are handled really well but the author. It is a love story not a romance and about a determination
