So I would completely erase that phrase from your vocabulary.

Having said that, one of my favorite pieces of advice from another author was, "Write it wrong so that you can go back and write it right." I think we all have a fear that our words and our stories have to be perfect as we're writing them. They're not going to, and they don't need to. But you have create something -- almost anything, with a beginning, middle, and end -- so that you can look at it and shape it and refine it.(less)

Another thing is to question why you're feeling this way. In Confessions of a Wedding Mom, Heather Hershey originally had parents who were characters in the story. I always dreaded working on their scenes and struggled trying to re-write them. Eventually I realized that I didn't need them as characters, and it was a huge relief that allowed me to move forward much more quickly.(less)

Transform Your Habits by James Clear
"James Clear has a big following because of his newsletter –which I am subscribed to–, and that can probably explain the many good reviews. But this document, which is already only a 45-page free-to-download "ebook", is too long and could be synthe..." Read more of this review »

London by Edward Rutherfurd
"I did not like this book, and probably won't finish it though I'm 3/4 of the way through. The author goes from life to life through the history of London, and because it's such massive history, is unable to give details about the characters and en..." Read more of this review »

“What really knocks me out is a book that, when you're all done reading it, you wish the author that wrote it was a terrific friend of yours and you could call him up on the phone whenever you felt like it. That doesn't happen much, though.”
J.D. Salinger, The Catcher in the Rye

I like it when somebody gets excited about something. It's nice.

“When you're dead, they really fix you up. I hope to hell when I do die somebody has sense enough to just dump me in the river or something. Anything except sticking me in a goddam cemetery. People coming and putting a bunch of flowers on your stomach on Sunday, and all that crap. Who wants flowers when you're dead? Nobody.”
