Joanna Schaffhausen wields a mean scalpel, skills she developed in her years studying neuroscience. She has a doctorate in psychology, which reflects her long-standing interest in the brain―how it develops and the many ways it can go wrong. Previously, she worked as a scientific editor in the field of drug development. Prior to that, she was an editorial producer for ABC News, writing for programs such as World News Tonight, Good Morning America, and 20/20. She lives in the Boston area with her husband, daughter, and an obstreperous basset hound.

Joanna Schaffhausen answered a question about All the Way Gone: How did Victoria Albright (Vicki) get her money? I know she had more than her brother, but I don't recall how she got it. She inherited it from her wealthy parents. She had control over the funds; her brother did not.

Joanna Schaffhausen answered a question about Gone in the Night: Do these need to be read in order or can they be read as a standalone like usual detective series? For this series, it's best to start with the first one, Gone for Good, because the ending to that one is necessarily spoiled in the others. But the mysteries in each book are all self-contained and can be read as a standalone.
