Tara began writing at 14, quickly developing a love for the written word. She went on to undertake a tertiary writing course in 2010 before studying Creative writing and Literature at university.
After graduating she completed her fourth full manuscript (which would go on to become her first published work) and began editing on a casual basis.

How do you deal with writer’s block?

Often my biggest struggle is lack of motivation which I often write off as writers blo…moreIt depends on how bad the block is, and if it's a block at all. Often my biggest struggle is lack of motivation which I often write off as writers block. I find, regardless of the cause, my best strategy is to interact with the work. This doesn't mean writing, it could be research, or outlining. I could decide to work on character development and sometimes I even draw (scenes, characters, maps, weapons etc.) so that I'm engaging with the story even though I'm not writing. I tend to find the more I engage, the easier it is to get back into it.
That being said, I also try to run on the rule of 'write, even if inspiration abandons you'. So I try to write nightly, and it seems the more I force myself to write through my blocks, the less I get them, and the easier it becomes to write large portions of text in single sittings.
So yeah. if I can't force myself to write through it, I find another way to interact with the work until it passes.(less)

Writing isn't an easy thing, it takes a lot of time and you make sacrifices most people…moreNothing is out of reach so long as you're willing to chase it. Writing isn't an easy thing, it takes a lot of time and you make sacrifices most people wouldn't even guess at (the amount of times I've bailed on social events to work would amaze you). This is especially true at the start, but if you're willing to put in the time and effort, if you can stand against the criticism and bounce back from the rejections - if you're willing to keep chasing - you'll get there eventually. It may take years, it may take decades, but that's just it. To succeed you need to keep chasing, even when it seems impossible.(less)

Hi All!

I don't get on here nearly as often as I ought to, but as we're slowly nearing the publication of book 2 in the Once I series (Once I Remember), which I don't believe I have yet announced on here, so, sorry about that.
