ASK BILL – July 6, 2016

Last month I asked for a new supply of questions, and your response was overwhelming. I’ll try and get to them all eventually, but I thought I’d answer ones you asked about my upcoming book this month.

1. Is there any chance of your book being available on Kindle? It makes reading so much easier.

I forwarded that question to my publisher, and received this reply: “Yep. Your book will be available as a Kindle and all other e-book formats on the day the physical book is released to the reading world.” It will also be released as an audio book along with a newly-recorded CD on October 1st.

2. I am trying to figure out who made the fancy black guitar on the cover of your book. I love the pearl inlay.

That guitar was made by Takamine and was given to me as a gift several years ago by my friends at BMI, the performing rights organization that licenses my music. I’m glad you like the way it looks. I do too. And it sounds pretty awesome as well.

3. Will there be a pre-order for the audiobook version of your new book on your website?

Yes, but not until August. We are waiting on the art work from the manufacturer and a few more details regarding packaging and pricing. We should have all the information we need shortly. Stay tuned.

4. I’m looking forward to getting my hands on your new book! I was just wondering if you’ve given much thought about making a movie based on your life? I think it would be as interesting and well received as Loretta’s “Coal Miner’s Daughter.”

That’s kind of you to say, but the successful country music movies have been based on more than a particular artist’s music. For example, Loretta’s rags to riches story resonated with people who had never even heard her sing. Ditto the Johnny Cash-June Carter love story. And the Hank Williams movies have primarily focused as much or more on his off-stage behavior as the incredible songs he wrote and recorded. At this point, I don’t think my life outside of music has been unique enough or interesting enough to warrant a mass appeal movie being made about it.

Keep your questions coming. Send them to me at whisperinbill@aol.com and I’ll get to them as soon as I can. Thanks.

CMA Music Fest is a great place for rubbing elbows with the legends and the newcomers alike. Here I’m visiting with Charley Pride and Scotty McCreary backstage at the Opry. Ronnie McDowell and I ran into each other at a party a few nights before. Note: That’s John Conlee in the background. But my favorite picture this month is the one of 8-month old John-Michael from Prince Edward Island, Canada. Here he sits in front of the TV watching guess-who on television. I’m told he sits motionless and listens intently every time I come on. Somebody is raising this kid right!
