There’s nothing like walking in a field of flags to bring home the true meaning of Memorial Day. That plus the picture of 94-year old Ed Haley and his wife, Connie, that I received early that morning. Mr. Haley, as you can read in my letter, was the man who inspired my song, “Old Army Hat.” Does he look great or what? I thought you might also like to see the ad my friend, Gus Arrendale, has taken out in the Songwriters Hall of Fame souvenir program that will be distributed to all the attendees at the big event on June 14th. I hope you’ll remember Springer Mountain Farms products when you’re shopping…knowing that Gus and his company are the best friends country music ever had!

Bill Anderson, Bobby Bare Packing Houses on American Legends Tour Dates – Music Row
Bill Anderson and Bobby Bare are selling out stops on their American Legends tour and captivating audiences with their more than 100 Top 40 combined hits and never before heard stories from the road.
“The opportunity to share this tour with one of my friends and Grand Ole Opry family members is an honor, and the chance to bring our stories and songs to the stage has brought back so many memories,” said Bare. “Bill Anderson has a way with words that captivates an audience and it is fun to watch.”
“I’m really excited touring with Bobby,” Anderson said. “We’ve been friends since forever, and our stage shows seem to genuinely complement one another. Besides, I love standing in the wings and listening to him recreate all those great hits of his. You don’t realize how many he’s had until they start coming at you back-to-back-to-back!”
Anderson recently released the video for his new single, “Until The Light Comes On Again.” The poignant tune brings a message of hope to anyone facing a challenge in their life, and Anderson was inspired to write the song after someone close to him bravely faced a cancer diagnosis. Whisperin’ Bill is donating proceeds/royalties from the song to benefit the Sarah Cannon Fund at The Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee.

Ask Bill – May 1
1) Is there a song or two in your catalog you felt particularly strong about that you think failed to reach its full potential? Something you think you should have done better?
I always think I could have done a song better. I’m not sure any artist is ever truly satisfied with their work. One song comes to mind, though, and I’ve done something about it. It’s called, “Something To Believe In,” and it was on one of my albums in the late sixties. I have recently re-recorded it for my next project. At its core, the song is a prayer. I hope you’ll like the new version when you hear it.
2) I haven’t heard any updates on how Mike Johnson is doing. I hope he is doing well.
Mike, who played steel guitar in my band for 16-years and is the band leader on Country’s Family Reunion, recently underwent treatment for a cancerous condition in his throat. He was unable to work for quite awhile, but things seem to be taking a turn for the better. I understand he’s been back in the recording studio on a limited basis and that the doctors feel they have his situation under control. Lots of prayers have been answered, believe me. Mike is truly one of the “good guys.”
3) How do you select which questions to answer in your Ask Bill column? I have sent several but never seen one of mine in print.
Well, now you have! I receive far more questions that I could ever possibly answer, and I appreciate every single one. I try to answer those that I feel are of the most general interest to our fans everywhere. You may have noticed that I’ve begun answering more questions that require only short responses in order to expand the number of answers each month. Keep sending them to me, and I’ll get to as many as I can as soon as I can.
Now here are some quickies for this month:
What song that you wrote has been recorded the most by other artists?
Probably “The Tips Of My Fingers.”
Where are you going to be this coming New Years Eve?
I have no idea. We do not have a concert scheduled at this time.
Is your dancing bus driver still with you?
No. James Price passed away several years ago.
In your book you mentioned you have a poster on your wall about a tour in the late sixties through Iowa and Minnesota. Could you tell me where you appeared in Iowa?
Cedar Rapids and Des Moines on that particular tour.
If you have a question for a future newsletter, send it to me at askbill@billanderson.com and I’ll do my best to answer. Stay curious.

Hi Gang:
Let me begin this month by thanking you for all your kind words and heartfelt responses to my new song and video, “Until The Light Comes On Again,” which was released back in mid-April.
I’ve heard from so many who say the song has touched you, inspired you, and comforted you or your loved ones, and that means more to me than you can ever know. My friend, Vickie, for whom I wrote the song and who appears in the video with me, is grateful for your love and prayers as well. If you haven’t seen or heard it yet, it’s available on YouTube, iTunes, and of course on our website at www.billanderson.com. If you download it or purchase it, remember all the proceeds go to help fight cancer.
Well, April was quite a month in Whisperworld. We were on the road every weekend, and had some fun times and interesting experiences along the way. Coming home from Walker, Minnesota, following a concert with Bobby Bare, we got caught in a snow and ice storm that turned our bus ride home into a 24-hour slippin’ and slidin’ ordeal. Bobby had flown to the Friday night date, and because of all the weather-related flight cancellations, he didn’t get back to Nashville until the wee hours of Monday morning! You might expect that in the winter, but in April?? We thawed out the following weekend in Texas.
Bobby and I plan to work a lot of shows together in the coming months on what is being called the American Legends Tour. Bobby is a great guy, works with a fine bunch of musicians, and our shows seem to compliment one another. I love standing in the wings and being reminded of all the great hit records he has made over the years. Our next concert together is scheduled for Hinton, Oklahoma, July 14th. Hope we’ll see lots of you there and in other places on down the line.
We won’t be touring in May, but we’ll be on the Opry May 5th, 8th, 11th, and 12th, and doing a LIVE Facebook chat on the 10th. Check our website and Facebook page for all the details. I’ll be undergoing a small preventive medical procedure toward the end of the month that will keep me grounded for a couple of weeks. Nothing serious…just something the doctors want me to take care of. I should be back up and running in time for the CMA Music Fest in early June, and then for our trip to New York for the Songwriters Hall Of Fame induction June 14th. For those of you in the area, don’t forget we’ll be performing at the new Opry City Stage the following night June 15th. I’m really looking forward to that. I understand it’s a beautiful venue and right in the heart of The Big Apple.
On a not-so-pleasant subject, I continue to get letters from fans who tell me they are being contacted by someone pretending to be me. This person tells women that he loves them, asks for money, and confuses a lot of people by using my name. Please ignore any correspondence you receive from this slime-ball. This is NOT me!
From the personal side of my life, my oldest grandson, Blake, broke a growth plate in his ankle playing in a Spring-league basketball game over the weekend, and he’ll be sidelined for awhile. Gabe came through his sinus surgery all right but was in a lot of pain for a few days. The doctors are running tests this week to see how he is responding to his new type of chemo. Thanks for all your continuing good wishes and prayers for those who are special to me.
May this truly be the “merry, merry month of May” for you and yours. Thanks for everything, and we’ll see you back here next month.

Bobby Bare and I are both “thumbs up” about our new American Legends Tour together. Both of us are looking forward to seeing lots of you out along the concert trail. We will each continue doing other shows as well, such as the one we performed recently in Arlington, Texas, where these other photos were taken.
