Exciting Updates for 2018

Inflicting Beauty is on track for it's expected publication in March. Everything is falling together quite nicely. Editor and editing deadline is set. Cover artist is secured. I've also secured the cover photo. I can't wait to share it with the world but you'll have to wait until February. I "Wander" what it's gonna be. Wink Wink. In the meantime, here's a look at the temporary cover.

September 6th marked the one year anniversary of Angelic Anarchy--my one and only published work.

I planned to publish 2-4 books in 2017. Ha! Well we all know how often plans turn out as expected. My writing goals and plans were all over the place. So after re-evaluating I rearranged some things and pushed everything back.

After Inflicting Beauty, be on the lookout for Making an Alpha, #1 of my new Necessary Roughness Novella Series. Breaking an Alpha, #2 in the series, will follow later in the year. This will be a fun new series featuring a different couple in each book. Each book in the series can be read as a standalone but would serve best read in order as the characters are interconnected.

Also in the works is The Right Strike a standalone about a second chance at love.

And of course, I can't forget about my first love of paranormal romance. I plan to publish Beautiful Betrayal, Book 2 of the Heaven on Earth Series in the upcoming year. I also intend to release a new revision of Book 1, Angelic Anarchy.

So that's the new plan and I'm sticking to it. Add Inflicting Beauty to your To Be Read list today!

Results From My First Writing Contest!

Earlier this year I entered a writing contest for my debut novel, Angelic Anarchy.

I didn't win but I hadn't really expected to. I was terrified to enter because this was not a contest based on fan votes. It was based on the writing-the story as a whole-but I knew the feedback would be crucial to improving the sequel.

Last night I received my results and I was blown away. Each book was assigned to three judges. The average of the three scores would determine the final score.

My final score was 8.67 out of 10!

I have to tell you that was much higher than I expected. I'm so proud of Angelic Anarchy but the more I read the more I find areas where I can improve. I received some great feedback and constructive criticism. Now more than ever, I am looking forward to finishing book 2, Beautiful Betrayal. I'm going to implement what I learned from the feedback of this contest and the reviews. I also plan to publish a revision of Angelic Anarchy as well.

Judge Feedback:
I love stories about angels and demons. I don’t read them often, so I was happy to get this entry. You knew where to stop a chapter to keep the reader turning the page. The story was interesting and I liked the plot, and the various types of angels and demons, such as Finders Keepers. At times, the writing disconnected me from the story.

My Comment:
This judge left so much more feedback than this. It was beyond helpful but too much to post here. He/She included specific examples of everything he/she mentioned-mostly technical errors, story flow, and etc. I found it so helpful and encouraging! All the information he/she gave me will be useful for my future works.

Judge Feedback:
I enjoyed your book. I was especially pleased to see you used scripture against the demons. I've always wondered why others didn't do that. Your characters were well developed and I grew to know them well. The battles were incredible, and the test of Belleeza's faith was totally believable. Temptation is wily and alluring, just as you portrayed it. PORTION DELETED DUE TO SPOILER but it was a pivotal point in the story that made a great transition. That stirs strong emotions in readers and helps them understand how difficult what your hero and heroine are doing is for them. Good job.

My Comment:
Awesome feedback. Deleted a bit as he/she detailed some specific key points in the story.

Judge Feedback:
Wow. Your book blew me away. I was so scared for Beleeza. Loved that DELETED DUE TO SPOILER. I was crying through parts of it.

My Comment:
Love this feedback! Deleted a bit as he/she detailed some specific key points in the story.

I am so pleased with the scores I received and the judge comments. I am proud of myself for seeing Angelic Anarchy through. There were many hurdles and many times I nearly gave up but I just couldn't let go. I will strive to improve my writing with each book. Check back for updates on book 2, Beautiful Betrayal, and my other upcoming works.

The Post I've Been Avoiding...

I waited so long to write this post because I dreaded saying the words out loud but I can't put if off any longer. Beautiful Betrayal is temporarily on hold--for a few months or so. Unfortunately, life happens...

In December, I had an amazing opportunity. I started a new position. It was a complete career change for me. My new job kept me extremely busy the past few months as I navigated my way through my new responsibilities.

On top of a career change I also had a series of health issues and just plain bad luck. At the beginning of April I fell down my own stairs and sprained my ankle so badly that it still swells when I stand on it. I overstretched my achilles tendon and I haven't been able to wear heals until the past two weeks when I had no choice for major work events. After months and months of health issues I finally got an answer when I was diagnosed with PCOS just a few weeks after I fell down my stairs.

Add a hubby and his business, munchkins and their sports, and everything else life tosses your way and you get one very overwhelmed JP. I am not a full-time writer. I'm a working mother and wife that writes in her free time.

The truth is I probably could have finished Beautiful Betrayal by July as planned. However, I wanted to take my time and finish it the way I want to finish it and still have plenty of time for editing and proofreading. I love this series and though I am an amateur indie author I don't want to rush through my books. I write because I enjoy it and I wouldn't have enjoyed rushing through and throwing something together.

So, for a few months, Beautiful Betrayal is on hold. I stretched myself too thin this past year. I'm going to finish my contemporary romance, Inflicting Beauty so I can stay on schedule with that one. Then, I will return to Beautiful Betrayal.

Let's Talk PCOS!

Switching it up a bit today. I've been having a lot of health issues over the past several months – some issues for the last year. I've been so overwhelmed with work, family, life in general that I was struggling to keep up with everything. Then, in the last year I started struggling with health issues. Book 2, Beautiful Betrayal, was supposed to be released this month but I'm very behind. It will likely be June or July at this point. I'm sorry. I am disappointed but sometimes life just throws you curveballs.

Constant stress and anxiety kept me from focusing. I was in a depressed state. There were periods in which I cried at some point every single day for weeks at a time. I couldn't understand it. I felt like I had postpartum again – except my babies were 7 and 5. I was exhausted mentally and emotionally. Then physically I started changing too. I was gaining weight, a lot, and quickly. No matter what I did the number on the scale just kept climbing. My face broke out, badly...and stayed that way. Again, everything I tried...failed. It got to the point that I wouldn't take pictures and I dreaded going out in public. My hair felt like it was thinning. It was one thing after another.

I didn't tell anyone about my struggles. Not my family or my closest friends. I couldn't understand what was going on with me so how could I explain it to anyone else.

It's been a long and tiring road to find the cause of my issues. The problem was I kept trying to find the source of each individual symptom not realizing they were all connected. On Wednesday, April 19, 2017, I finally got my diagnosis: Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome.

From hormone.org: "Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is the most common hormonal disorder among women of reproductive age. Infertility is one of the most common PCOS symptoms. Because the symptoms of PCOS are seemingly unrelated to one another, the condition is often overlooked and undiagnosed."

After researching nonstop since Wednesday, I now realize PCOS is probably the reason it took me two years to get pregnant with my first child. I don't know why my symptoms escalated in the last year or so but I hit my 30’s last year. So, I suppose age may be a contributing factor. Whatever the case may be, this week I begin my journey with PCOS treatment.

I’m sorry that I don’t have a better update about Beautiful Betrayal but I promise it is on its way. I hope you can wait it out.

xoxo - JP

I am NOT a bitch...or maybe I am?

BITCH is a word that I am all too familiar with. I cannot tell you how many times I have been called a bitch. Or how many times I've heard it as I left a room. Or how many times it was whispered as I walked by...women are brutal, men too, but usually it’s the women that are first to call another woman a bitch. Sometimes I even deserve it...

Am I a bitch? Truth--I guess I could see how people think that. I walk into a room, lips pursed, barely a hint of a smile. I'm well mannered, polite. Though, I keep to myself. I greet those I come into contact with-- say "hello, how are you?" but I make no attempt at small talk. I don't coo at your baby or remark about the weather. I don't try to show you photos of my children or follow you on social media.

I can be judgmental. I can be crass--who am I kidding I can be a full-on asshole. I don't mean to be but I am. I put on a show, like I'm hard. Like nothing anyone says or does affects me...but it does. I never talk about my issues but I listen yours. I don't participate in sharing sob stories and you think that's it because I think I'm perfect. I'm not and I know it--I just don't want to be seen as weak. So, I walk around like I have no emotions, like I'm a robot. I hold my head high and pretend that I'm a bitch and I know it and you can't hurt me.

It's all a lie. I'm quiet. I'm reserved. I listen but rarely contribute but I have an opinion about everything. I'm a loner. I prefer characters in books or video games to people. What can I say? I'm socially awkward like that. I always have been. My less than friendly demeanor isn't always accepted. I am only comfortable with family and my very few close friends.

The truth is I just don't know how to be any other way. It's easy for most people to walk around and be friendly. To smile and fake small talk. It's not for me. I don't know how to be like you. This is who I am...

UPDATE: Upcoming Projects

Well, I can finally say I'm a published author! The launch of my debut novel, Angelic Anarchy, went very well. I've received a lot of great feedback. Thank you to those who have left reviews -- and to those of you who haven't, please do so if you get the chance. You have no idea how greatly reviews help authors, especially newer authors like myself. Reviews have been better than expected, and a lot of the criticism has highlighted areas of weakness in my writing. I believe that insight is really going to help me evolve my skills. I'm sure there are minor kinks in Book 1 that I need to iron out, but for now I can happily move on to my next planned projects.

That said, I wanted to give you an update on tentative projects and schedules:
- Beautiful Betrayal (Book 2 of the Heaven on Earth Series) - On schedule for a February 2017 release.  I would love to get it out to you in January but that's kind of pushing it as I'm a working mom. At the very latest it should be out by March. Wait until you see the cover, I just love it! Hint Hint...We'll see some familiar characters--some of our favorite angels and maybe a favorite villain or two?!?
- Secret Title (Book 1 of...A new series I can't wait to release) - Withholding all details on this upcoming series for now. Sorry...but what I will say is that I cannot wait to get this out to you. All new world, all new characters, all new romance... :-) This one is on the schedule for a Summer 2017 release.
- Secret Title (Book 3 of the Heaven on Earth Series) - Sorry, no hints this time. Hoping for a Late 2017 release.
- Secret Title (Book 2 of...A new series I can't wait to release) - Pushing for an Early 2018 release.
- Secret Title (Book 4 of the Heaven on Earth Series) - Aiming for release during Summer 2018.
- Secret Title (Book 1 of...Spin-off of Heaven on Earth Series) - Just a little teaser here but this will be a spin-off series with two characters from Heaven on Earth that I loved dearly. Here's a hint...One of them is Lorileigh! Eeeck...so excited to get this one going. Aiming for an Late 2018 release.
Well, those are my goals at this point. Obviously, life sometimes happens and schedules get rearranged but for now we are on track. I hope you're excited as I am. I'm looking forward to hearing your feedback on Angelic Anarchy!
