Some good ones!

First up is The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle by Haruki Murakami. I have wanted to read Murakami for awhile, and Patti Smith mentions how much she admired this book in her personal reflections, M Train. Plus, I LOVE magic realism!

I like keeping a classic epic going, so next up is War and Peace by Tolstoy, the Pevear and Volokhonsky translation. Really looking forward to this one since I recently finished The Count of Monte Cristo (one of my favorites!).

Then I plan on reading The Paris Wife by Paula McLain. I have always been fascinated by the "Jazz Age," and of course with the writers of that time.

That's my summer reading plan!(less)

She had been dead for years and the house had been rented out to another family after she died.

My family had only been living in the house for a couple of months when a copper cuff bracelet appeared. I found it in the den when I got home from school one afternoon. It was about an inch wide and had some initials engraved on it.

I showed the bracelet to my mother when she got home from work that day. A strange expression crossed her face when she asked where I got it. I told her I found it on the coffee table in the den. I could tell she had seen the bracelet before.

She told me it belonged to my great-grandmother, her grandmother, whose house we were living in. My grandfather had engraved his mother's initials on it and had given it to her because copper was said to help alleviate arthritic pain. My mother had not seen the bracelet since she was a little girl.

We never found out what had happened to the bracelet for all those years or how it found it's way to our den that afternoon. (less)

“you do not want to manipulate or control your breath in any way. It can be performed standing, sitting, or while lying down. You will be successful whether you observe one breath or twenty. This is about awareness, not manipulation. Do not try to change your breath. Let it be what it is in that moment. All you have to do is observe your breath as if you were a bystander watching someone else breathe. Notice”

“So I say go create something. Find your voice. Put it out there, into the world of hungry people. Give your art as freely as you give your tattered jeans. Contribute. Give what you have. Give your talents, your thoughts, your deeds, and trust your goods will end up where they need to go, will touch who they need to touch. After all, your contributions just might be better than you think.”
