"We are mortal - you and I"...
It's been cold here, which put me in the mood to write something chilling. I saw sparkles of moonlight last night in the snow that looked like someone had scattered gems on that frozen surface. Immediately, I pulled out my phone and recorded all but the last stanza of a new poem which I just added to the Bizarre Tales site. It's a little weird, but given the circumstances of its narrator, perhaps understandable...
Check it out on the Bizarre Tales website!
And thanks.
Chris.

Sexy Witches . . . and Hunters From Beyond!!
October is winding down, and with only a week and a day remaining for this month of horror, I felt I should double-down on the poems.
On Bizarre Tales, I have posted two POEMS OF THE DAY-WEEK-WHATEVER - one about a prey who isn't what his hunter thinks he is, and another of a very sexy witch who's sure to satisfy every curiosity you ever had about how witches have fun when they go out for a night on the town. Wow, Elizabeth Montgomery, look out.
If you like a poem, please leave a comment, either on the Bizarre Tales site , or here, on Goodreads! I swear on my future grave I'd love to hear from you.
Oh yes --- as this month is winding down, so is the time to grab my On a Winter's Eve gratis! Free on Amazon US, Smash, B&N, everywhere that's anywhere. A real short treat for this wicked month, so don't miss out on a chance to get it free.

Horror Week 2018
In honor of Horror Week 2018 here on Goodreads, I'm offering my own scary, little tale free on SmashWords for the entire month of October. After all, All Hallows Eve isn't until the 31st, right? Rather than just one week of horror, let's extend that for as long as we can!
Who can resist a story that begins:
Some feedback from readers:
"A ripping good tale..."
--Trekelny - Amazon Review
"This outstanding horror story is reminiscent of Lovecraft's style..."
--Charles van Buren - Amazon Review
"This short story is flat out creepy..."
--Gilbert M. Stack - B&N Review
"This story adequately adopts that Lovecraft-with-muscle style while hanging on to certain mannerisms exclusive to the master..."
--James Hold - SmashWords Review
"This dark tale is well written and scary enough to make me want to leave the lights on..."
--Ami A. Amazon Review

Feeling LOST?
After my pen-pal, author-buddy, co-conspirator Gilbert M. Stack finished reading my lost race novel, The Valley of Despair, I decided to make it available for FREE for the month of September (except on Amazon where I can't do so, regrettably).
Since it's a week into the month, I'll probably extend this into October, so don't miss your chance to snag this adventure yarn while it's available gratis.
The Valley of Despair is the first of a two-part story involving the misfortunes of a First World War pilot who, after his compass malfunctions, finds himself wrecked hundreds of miles from where he was heading where he discovers a stone-age city inhabited by strange beings.
Visit my download sites page to find a site you like to use (B&N, ITunes, Kobo, Smashwords, Etc).
On the surface, one might expect just another, good lost-race novel. But it isn't. And if you follow through by reading it's sequel, The Cosmos of Despair, you'll learn the truth about the people Erik finds in the strange city that is trapped in the time-warp of a distant star.
A note on Gil - I've come to learn he is a master reviewer. Every time he reads one of my stories, it comes out the better for it, and I learn something. Thanks, Gil!

New poem at Bizarre Tales & Other News
I haven't written much poetry of late - things have been very busy.
So, when the idea came to me to combine belly dancing and flashing scimitars, I leaped all over it. I hope you enjoy this short, Arabesque romp. Check it out on the Bizarre Tales Homepage if the idea interests you of kahwa sipped in a dingy, smoke-filled room where every occupant sits mesmerized by a green-eyed dancer...
As to why things have been so busy, I war on multiple fronts. I had been heavily focused on finishing The Banshee of the Atacama which I had planned on releasing end of Spring. For various reasons, this is again delayed, one of which is, however, very exciting.
I have mentioned in the past that I have four sequels to Edgar Rice Burroughs' Mars series, which I submitted some time ago to ERB Inc. Well -- three full-length novels, and one 40k novelette.
The time draws near where the first of these may soon see print. Toward that end, I've been laboring to make ready the 2nd volume which they will soon require (the first novel is lengthy and I agreed to splitting it into a Vol I & II).
I still do not know precisely when the first will be published, but its certainly fascinating to learn that day draws nearer.
This necessary work will be completed soon, and then I shall tackle finishing up Banshee. In this effort, I'm hoping to enlist the aid of fellow writers William L. Hahn and Gilbert M. Stack as both are perceptive and canny reviewers.
To those of you out there in the Abyss who happen to read this - salute. And if you happen to read a story of mine that you liked, shoot me an email or leave a review. I'd love to hear from you.

New art at Bizarre Tales
So, after finishing up Gil Stack's map of The Jeweled Hills I went back to a painting I began back in December 2017. I wanted to replace the night-gaunt themed painting I'd given to my guitar pickin' buddy so I could have one to hang in my man cave.
But after painting the main mountain at least 3 times, I'd been unable to get it to the point that I was happy with it. I kept scraping it off and starting again, finally setting it aside.
Enter Gil's map with its myriad of mountains - giving me lots of practice painting ridge lines and mountain slopes.
Taking advantage of all the practice I got doing the map, I decided it was time to finish this second version of Night-Gaunts over Kadath, based on H. P. Lovecraft's Dream-Quest of Unknown Kadath.
Check it out on the Bizarre Tales Fantasy Art page - my miniscule (but growing) collection of oil paintings dedicated to the genres I love.

Come discuss a killer novel -- Khaled!
Over at Written Gems I have opened a discussion about the F. Marion Crawford novel Khaled: A Tale of Arabia.
If you have never heard of the novel - or its author - you might consider giving it a read.
It's a beautifully written, Arabesque romance in the style of the Arabian Nights - the tale of an afrit given a human body who must convince the lovely Princess Zehowah to love him or he is doomed to be blasted into nothing when the trumpet resurrects the chosen.
More of the story, together with links to downloads of the novel, can be found on the Written Gems Goodreads discussion group.
Addendum: I added a new page to the Bizarre Tales webpage, highlighting the Written Gems discussion group. Check it out here.

New Fantasy Art on Bizarre Tales!
Recently, I was asked by author Gilbert M. Stack to help him with a fantasy map for his Legionnaire series.
This endeavor has resulted in a much more complex image than Gil originally imagined in his hand-sketch - a map that will now go on to adorn the next few releases of his series that takes place in The Jeweled Hills.
All these mountains I painted for the mountainous western region of the map has inspired me to pick back up an H. P. Lovecraft-inspired painting I started months ago.
But I also must return to pick up the latest saga of Ansen Grost, whom when I last saw him was in a pretty hairy predicament involving a certain banshee, and a giant demon in a land devoid of life...

New Reviews at Bizarre Tales
Recently I finished reading The Ring and the Flag, by William L. Hahn. What a wonderful story.
This piece of fantasy is a marvel in world building. While but a novella in the 30k word range, Mr. Hahn skillfully manages to show us a world that simply must exist - somewhere. It's too real.
The story is fast-paced, and runs along like a smooth, well-oiled engine. When the pace slows for needed culture or historical backstory, the imagery with which this is accomplished is splendidly done.
Check out the review on the Bizarre Tales Recommendations page:

Bizarre Tales
Weird tales; strange tales; tales with bizarre, unforeseen twists and endings; macabre little tales; encounters and close brushes with mind-warping beings both supernatural and otherworldly.
Should a Weird tales; strange tales; tales with bizarre, unforeseen twists and endings; macabre little tales; encounters and close brushes with mind-warping beings both supernatural and otherworldly.
Should a reader find stories such as these of interest they might enjoy the tales I've made available online. Each is an attempt to construct something unique and enjoyable.
For sure, they will touch on the broader themes we fans of these various genres all love to read and reread; lost cities, magical Jinns, Lovecraftian monsters, the hair raising encounter with something grim, the clash and clang of a sword-fight.
But, also it is the hope of this author that the reader will encounter other things they may or may not have come across before: unexpected twists, memorable characters strange inventions.
Enjoy.
Best,
