Richard Dee's Life and Other Dreams
I was quite thrilled when independent author Richard Dee offered to host me on his
Indie Showcase
where he promotes other Indie authors--which I find quite generous in a cut-throat world where everyone is striving for attention.
Curious as to what sort of writer Richard was, I purchased a copy of one of his novels at random, and think I made a fine choice.
Life and Other Dreams is a neat novel about two radically different men from different worlds and times who dream of one another's lives.
But for Rick, the 21st century Earthman, his dreams are becoming somewhat of a problem.
In a gesture of good faith and honesty, he reveals to his wife that he dreams of being a settler on another world 600 years in the future, and of his marriage to a beautiful woman with whom he enjoys this unfettered lifestyle of exploring a new, Earth-like world.
Unsurprisingly, his wife isn't thrilled. And therein begins the problems for our humble Earthman.
Quite an enjoyable read for any who likes their sci-fi mixed with a little mystery. The characters are sprinkled with real-life problems, which, to me, adds to the realism and also exacerbates the contrasting lives of the two men.
While you're picking up a copy of Richard's novel, don't forget to check out his site and also the latest release from Bizarre Tales ... The Hunter and the Sorcerer!

New Bizarre Tale Available!
A new Bizarre Tale,
The Hunter and the Sorcerer
, is now available from Amazon and elsewhere.
Banished from his tribe after offending the chief, a hunter named Bru stalks into the tiger-haunted hills with only his stone knife and the furs on his back, determined to find some way to appease the chief so he might return to the tribe. For if he doesn't return soon, the girl he loves will be mated to a hated rival on the night of Wyrm.
Yet Bru's plans are thrown out of kilter when he runs afoul of a visitor from another world. Bizarrely instructed in science and physics beyond his simple ken, savage Bru finds himself making a deal with the mysterious outsider that will allow the hunter to return to his people.

An Unveiling -- The cover for The Hunter and the Sorcerer
When I started painting with oils in the summer of 2016 after bingeing Bob Ross all Winter and Spring I discovered a side of my nature I wasn't aware lurked there... or maybe I had merely forgotten it.
However it was, I dove in and haven't come back up for air and have no plans to. I enjoy painting as much as writing stories and poems and hope to be able to dove-tail these passions.
Regarding that desire, The Hunter and the Sorcerer will be the first time I've used one of my oil paintings for the cover art of one of my stories.
Having started painting The Lair in Aug of 2019 and set it aside to work on other projects many times, it was a thrill to finally complete it, photograph it, and then create the cover art for this bizarre, Pleistocene themed yarn.
I've added the cover art to my Coming Next page, so please check it out. I hope to get the story published by the end of March!

Bizarre Tales Site Updates
Lots of neat things happen in short order. Check out the Bizarre Tales site to see what's been going on of late.
I'd also like to extend an invite to any and all who are fans of Edgar Rice Burroughs to give thought to joining the ERB-APA (Edgar Rice Burroughs Amateur Press Association). We're looking for members and have about 10 positions. Let your creative juices explore ERB ephemera and read new takes on old things that will surprise you.
Check out the ERB-APA posts on the Bizarre Tales Homepage and the News & Items of Note Archive. Links will carry you to the ERB-APA site on ERBzine and feel free to message me for more info.
Edgar Rice Burroughs Collectors take special note!!
Back issues of the ERB-APA are available directly from the OE (Official Editor). These are rarely encountered in the collecting world, possibly because the boxes of back issues haven't been advertised. These are along the lines of Burroughs Bibliophiles but much more immersive. Message me for info on how to add copies of these illusive fan Amateur Press periodicals (published 4-times a year) to your collection!

Indie Showcase Highlight!
Richard Dee, author of Life and Other Dreams, the Andorra Pett series and a whole host of other tales, flash-fiction collections and even a guide for world building, promotes a different Indie Author each week on his Indie Showcase posts.
This is just awesome of Richard, who is going out of his way to promote, not only his own works (he's an Indie Author, too), but also the talents of others.
This week I had the honor of sharing my own story of how I came to be a writer, and why I self-publish.
I hope you'll support Richard's efforts by checking out his Indie Showcase pages, and pop a reply on a few of them. He'll appreciate it.
Check out Richard's writing on Amazon . He has some very interesting sounding offerings (I had to purchase Life & Other Dreams to check out).
And be sure to check out my Indie Showcase story ! And leave a reply; I'd love to hear from you.

Bizarre Tales Updates and Announcements
I don't blog nearly frequently enough; that's because I'm always working on something. In this case, it's been a lot of somethings.
First and foremost, a story I've been wanting to complete for quite some time is now finished and in the hands of proof readers, that story being The Banshee of the Atacama. But as I await their feedback, I haven't been idle.
In the past I've been asked to write articles for the DMR Books Blog, a task I'm always happy to fulfill. Recently, DMR published two new articles, one on collecting the works of A. Merritt (author of The Ship of Ishtar, The Face in the Abyss, et al) and another on the amazing pulp artist, Virgil Finlay--specifically my review of The Collectors' Book of Virgil Finlay, which highlights the pieces by Finlay in the hands of four different collectors. Links to these articles, which are cram-packed full of dazzling photos photoshopped by yours truly, can be found on the Bizarre Tales homepage .
In the realm of art, I have painted a monster for author Gilbert M. Stack for use on the cover of the latest in his Preternatural Series, available from Amazon mid-February. Check out the details of Mr. Stack's new release at the link above, and to view an interesting progress of the monster in the form of images, visit the Bizarre Tales Fantasy Art page; I believe you'll find it of interest.
Finally, as I mentioned, I have not been idle since completing Banshee. I just completed another new story which will be released soon (as soon as I finish painting its cover), titled The Hunter and the Sorcerer. Check out a Sneak Peak of the cover and read the synopsis on the Bizarre Tales Coming Next page.
Until next time...

The Test of Fire!
I just finished reading author William L. Hahn's excellent The Test of Fire, the latest volume in his trilogy, The Tributarians, set in The Lands of Hope.
Mr. Hahn is the official chronicler of The Lands, and does simply a splendid job bringing this fantasy world to life.
This novel tells the story of Querlak Barleybane, an elf, who has purchased a knighthood and taken on lordship of the foef of Mon-Crulbagh which lies in the deep south near the jungles.
It's up to Querlak to make the foef successful or not, and with warring neighbors who claim he's moving the border stones to broaden his holdings, it isn't easy!
Read more on the Bizarre Tales site where more comments and download links will be found.

The Indie Showcase
On his website, versatile writer Richard Dee has a page he calls The Indie Showcase where he seeks to shine attention on various Independent Authors who catch his eye.
His latest is author Gilbert M. Stack. I have painted a couple of maps for Mr. Stack (it's a side hobby) and he was gracious enough to mention these efforts in a most complimentary manner for which I am extremely grateful.
Check out this spotlight on one of our fellow Goodread members on Mr. Dee's site.

Gilbert M. Stack's Occult-tober
A couple years back fellow author Gilbert M. Stack started a seasonal offering for the month of All Hallows Eve, cleverly calling it Occult-tober.
This year he has released Vol 1 in his new Preternatural series. The first title in the series is The Devil's Caverns .

If folks had any business living in the small Colorado town of Hadrian’s Well, there wouldn’t be a meadow called Dead Man’s Field outside of it. That’s where Deputy Joanna Dawson finds bloody body parts strewn across the ground. She thought that rural Colorado would be safer than Chicago. She’s about to find out she’s wrong.

Bizarre Tales
Weird tales; strange tales; tales with bizarre, unforeseen twists and endings; macabre little tales; encounters and close brushes with mind-warping beings both supernatural and otherworldly.
Should a Weird tales; strange tales; tales with bizarre, unforeseen twists and endings; macabre little tales; encounters and close brushes with mind-warping beings both supernatural and otherworldly.
Should a reader find stories such as these of interest they might enjoy the tales I've made available online. Each is an attempt to construct something unique and enjoyable.
For sure, they will touch on the broader themes we fans of these various genres all love to read and reread; lost cities, magical Jinns, Lovecraftian monsters, the hair raising encounter with something grim, the clash and clang of a sword-fight.
But, also it is the hope of this author that the reader will encounter other things they may or may not have come across before: unexpected twists, memorable characters strange inventions.
Enjoy.
Best,
