Jonathan Edward Ondrashek is a horror/dark fantasy writer and editor who hisses and screeches at sunlight. He’s the author of The Human-Undead War trilogy (Dark Intentions, Patriarch, and A Kingdom’s Fall). His short stories have appeared in numerous anthologies, including the highly acclaimed VS: US vs UK Horror series, Nothing’s Sacred Volume 5, and It Came From the Garage!, which featured Stephen King and Guy N. Smith, among others. He also co-edited Deranged, F*ck the Rules, What Goes Around, and Man Behind the Mask, boundary-pushing anthologies featuring work from established and new voices in the horror genre.

I let it work itself out. If that means I don't write a single word for weeks on end, so be it.

The publishing world is all about slamming work out--I believe the new rule is 3-6 full-length works per year. Unfortunately, I feel this has led to poor editing and marketing, gaping and glaring plot holes, and some downright shoddy work flooding the markets.

Write it as quickly as YOU can, not as quickly as others tell you to. You owe the reader your very best, not your quickest-written works.(less)

Description: In 2041, vampires are discovered and humanity is thrust into a blood-soaked battle for supremacy. Seven years later, the Human-Undead War rages on. Brian Koltz, the lead scientist and negotiator for the Undead Relations Committee, conducts futile parleys between the warring factions. He believes he holds the solution to successful cohabitation: the Platelet Mushroom, an accidental creation which temporarily produced human blood. However, he is unable to recreate the Platelet due to its mysterious origin and human government disapproval. Brian is abducted after one of the negotiation meetings. His kidnapper, the tyrannical Undead Patriarch, Barnaby, offers to fund and condone the Platelet experiment, which involves using a human body as its engine. He also offers Brian the ultimate Undead gift of immortality. Brian joins the Undead ranks to pursue his worldview without the baggage of mortality. While struggling with his new powers, he befriends Barnaby and believes their budding friendship may be the catalyst to peaceful coexistence. But as Barnaby’s dark secrets are exposed, Brian must find it in himself to forsake peace and undo Barnaby’s sinister plot before the world is plunged into darkness forever.
