2019 In Review

https://www.instagram.com/scribblesuwu/?hl=en

This year marked my first year post-MFA and I’m thankful to have had the good fortune of getting a handful of pieces published in a variety of excellent lit mags. Here’s the rundown of what’s out there:

Someone Else’s Story – Helen Lit Mag

Chicken Shit – Newfound

It’s Time to Get Fucking Weird – Little Death Lit

Kant Skateboard – The Write Launch

Author Spotlight – CK Fiction

Like most writers I know, I feel like my productivity this year was down – we’re a hard lot to satisfy, particularly in considering ourselves. For all the ideas that swirl in my head, they seem pointless if I am not capturing the words to express them on the page. In reality, I know that there are off years where ideas formate usually followed by others, where the ideas that stick force their way out of my head. As of now, I am hopeful that my year of ruminating on my muses is shifting into solid work, particularly as I begin to attempt to write some fiction.

All of that being said, I had the aforementioned pieces published and additionally found a new-to-me outlet of on-the-spot typewriter poetry. Good lord is that ever a challenge, but when it works it is like magic. At one event we (there were six poets, myself included) a line of eager muses waited from the moment we start until almost an hour after we should have stopped writing. My best guess was that I myself wrote 100 or more poems that night with many of the recipients besides themselves with joy over the words I had so hastily typed out for them.

Beside my own work, I’m lucky enough to have had the chance to work with some excellent authors in editing their work. Additionally I managed to pack in several dozen books this year spanning most genres. The talented writers I’m surrounded by are just outstanding and I’m so lucky to know so many of them.

Finally, I can’t help but brag about my daughter, who just keeps growing in her own artistic practice and inspiring me to push my craft further. The art up above is a small taste of the work she’s been doing and a link to her Instagram in case you’d like to see more. She’s planning on starting to do commission work if you’re looking for a unique gift!

So, as we close the door on 2019 and walk forward into 2020, I am looking ahead and hoping to find new words and ideas to share with you all!
