I was born and raised in southern California, in an area known as the Inland Empire, surrounded by mountains, wide-open fields and orange groves. In a household with four kids, there was aways some kind of activity going on: listening to records with my brother and sisters; helping Dad mow the lawn and pull weeds; learning how to sew and bake with Mom; taking family trips; and of course, endless reading!
