Cage writes Aussie (outback and urban and rural), thrillers, speculative fiction, scary stuff - tall stories all (and a small foray into allegory).
A Storyteller, a dreamer, an imaginer. Some would say Fibber, Fabricator, Teller of Tall Tales. Yep – storyteller.
Born in the mid-northwest wheat-belt of Western Australia; lived all over Australia, worked at everything from sewage collection to computer programming; graduated with a BA Comm (Prof. Writing) and Grad Dip Computing.
You’ll find Cage in Adelaide South Australia, behind the sunny window where the ideas flow in with the sun, where the birds argue about territory, and where dogs and people wander at will.

“Don’t you know what ordinary people do to protect each other?”

“I’m not ordinary, Cella.” That should warn the girl.

“No one is truly ordinary. But you could be. You know what it takes to put on the mask of ordinary, but you don’t seem to understand that under the mask is the real thing — got one of those in your kit bag? A real person who’s more than a mask for the job?”
Cage Dunn, The Old Woman the Mad Horse: Case File for: the Big Three Mining Investigations

“The first time, she’d done it off her own instincts, and he’d ripped her to shreds for not including the team in her decisions, but since then, he’d asked her what she’d have done if alone. This was why. There would always come a time when no one could help. Working alone meant making those choices, taking those chances.”
Cage Dunn, The Old Woman the Mad Horse: Case File for: the Big Three Mining Investigations

“His brain spun out into the speckles of stars, wandered like a lost soul for a few seconds.”
Cage Dunn

“Life will break you. Nobody can protect you from that, and living alone won't either, for solitude will also break you with its yearning. You have to love. You have to feel. It is the reason you are here on earth. You are here to risk your heart. You are here to be swallowed up. And when it happens that you are broken, or betrayed, or left, or hurt, or death brushes near, let yourself sit by an apple tree and listen to the apples falling all around you in heaps, wasting their sweetness. Tell yourself you tasted as many as you could.”
Louise Erdrich, The Painted Drum

“In nature, nothing is perfect. Trees can be contorted, bent in weird ways and they're still beautiful.”
Alice Walker

“Laughter isn't even the other side of tears. It is tears turned inside out. Truly the suffering is great, here on earth. We blunder along, shredded by our mistakes, bludgeoned by our faults. Not having a clue where the dark path leads us. But on the whole, we stumble along bravely, don't you think?”
