Check out the second book in The Klass series. Having obtained the weapon it needs to proceed The Klass begins its final preparations to take over the South. But Michael, Zach and Bubba take up their own investigation of The Tyros.

Will Michael and his friends along with Agent Deal of the FBI connect The Tyros to The Klass? In return, what is The Klass willing to do to dissuade them?

I'm pleased to add The Klass - Doyens, Book II of The Klass series to Goodreads! It's available on Amazon in Kindle and paperback.

Several new and colorful characters appear to interact with Michael King and his friends, Agent Deal, Governor Margie Franks and the other actors in Tyros.

Please let me know what you think!

Book II is available!

So, here goes. Book II of The Klass series is now available! I have to say that it was a pleasure to write and a bear to edit! I had some great help and it's finally out!

Anyway, The Klass - Doyens continues the story of The Klass and its objective to take control of the South. With a new weapon at its disposal, they just might succeed.

But, Michael King and his friends continue to pursue The Tyros organization on their college campus. The question is - what are the leaders of The Klass, The Doyens, willing to do about it?

Enjoy! And thanks!

Dan

P.S. It's available on Amazon now and I'll add it to Goodreads in the next day or so.

Book II Update and What I'm Reading Now

If all goes well, I'll be setting a release date for The Klass - Doyens, book two of The Klass series very soon. I was hoping to get it out before Labor Day, and I still will if I can without compromising the final product.

I'm excited about the second book. It continues the story begun in The Klass - Tyros and takes us deeper into the conspiracy with new characters to stir things up!

In my few spare moments, I'm currently reading two books that couldn't be more different! What Hath God Wrought is a rather dry and objective history of the United states in the first half of the 19th Century. It's detailed, in depth and very well written. I'm learning a lot about the genesis of one of the great divisions in American society. That division could be described in many ways, and I hesitate to try. But I'll leave it as central federal control vs. state's rights. (This is far from a truly adequate description, but suffices for a simple blog.)

I've also started reading The Sisters Brothers by Patrick DeWitt. I'm not too far in, but its kind of a nutty but intellectually fun novel based in the old west. I'm looking forward to more.

I love to write. And I love to read. What would I give to have more time for both?

Book II - Doyens

I took a couple of days off to work on the second book in The Klass series, The Klass - Doyens. And, I'm pleased to report that I've finished! It's a great feeling. I can't wait to get it edited and ready to release.

Several reviewers noted that the first book ended abruptly, and I have to agree. The second book concludes at a much more natural point in the story. I won't say where, but the culminating event in this book will set the stage for the final installment.

If all goes well, I'll set a release date before Labor Day!

Yankees and Rebs

I've spent the last few days in Connecticut visiting family. My beautiful mother-in-law lives here now, although she's an Alabama girl through and through. So, I hear a lovely contrast between the unfamiliar Connecticut accents all around and the polite, deep southern lilt in her voice.

Earlier today, she jokingly noted that there is no memorial to the Confederacy in the entire state of Connecticut! We all laughed, but I don't remember seeing any memorials to Union soldiers in Alabama, either.

Thinking about this further, I noted that in both Connecticut and Alabama, small town squares and public areas have monuments to the soldiers and heroes of every other war, and they stood shoulder to shoulder, side by side, as Americans.

I know, I know, so what's my point? Easy. More binds the fabulous Yankee state of Connecticut with the grand deep southern state of Alabama than separates them - and I think that's cool.

Doyens? Tyros?

Odd names to be sure, but they have real meanings. The Klass is a conspiracy that has been in place for generations. If there was to be a lasting conspiracy, one generation would have to pass on its knowledge, systems, organization and goals to the next generation. A child of The Klass must be indoctrinated, encouraged and taught how to proceed. Children must be able to take the place of their parents. Students must become the teachers if The Klass is to go on.
Tyro means student or recruit. Doyens are teachers and leaders.
In the first book, The Klass - Tyros, The Tyros is a secret organization on southern university campuses that acts as the training ground for future leaders of The Klass. I got the idea from rumors of a secret organization at The University of Alabama called The Machine. For many decades The Machine has been said to control campus politics - but nobody will admit it exists - and nobody has ever stepped forward as its leader.
It seems a bit incredible, but I didn't make up The Machine. While in college at Auburn University in the early 1980s, my friends at Alabama would relate rumors of The Machine. I was last in school at Alabama (law school) in the early 1990s and stories of The Machine still existed. Now, after writing The Klass, I've been told many more tales of this mysterious organization - which, it is said, exists to this day.
So, I don't claim to know if it's a real thing or not. But it does make for the beginnings of a good story!
The second book in the series, The Klass - Doyens, will focus a bit more on the leaders of the conspiracy. Yeah, you guessed it - they call themselves The Doyens.
