Writing Aussie-style.

I'm a proud Aussie. I love my country and I'm proud to be one. I wasn't so sure about writing Australian books however. Originally Breaking the Cycle didn't have a specific location although if I had been pressed I would've said America. It was at the suggestion of my publisher that I set it here. I'll admit, I really didn't want to write an Aussie book. I've grown up with Aussie books and they're all so cliché. Set in the bush, with tough as guts kids doing country stuff, stuff I know nothing about coming from the city. I've read a few contemporary romance novels set here and while I don't hate them, I don't love them either. I don't know why.I was talking about with my publisher while I was doing the developmental edits for BTC and it came to me that Australian books are very much like Australia itself, stuck between the past and the future and I realised I was very much buying into the stereotype of the Australian novel. And being an Australian writer I had a chance to help correct that.I'm glad I set BTC here, that I have a chance to show people around the world what Australia and Australians are like. I'm even more glad with my current WIP, a piece intended for an Australian themed anthology. It's made me realise what is so great about Australia, what makes us so unique, it's making me fall in love with country in a way I never thought possible.I'm so proud to be an Aussie author. I'm proud to write Australian novels. I'm proud to help break the stereotypes surrounding Australians and our work, even if it is from ourselves. We're unlike any other country in this planet, and we should be proud of that, embrace it. We are so small and so far away but everyone knows who and where we are because we refuse to be bound by our limitations. We're incredible and I love showing the world that.

The Hard Way release blitz

Received for an honest review.
I found it quite hard to connect with Cade. I know his brash and arrogant attitude make for a great story but I found it hard to overlook. I like that the Hard Way isn't your typical jock meets girl story, there's drama here, but also a bit of a life lesson.A worthy read.

Distractions, Tania Joyce release blitz

Received for an honest opinion.
To be honest, this book didn't really do it for me. I didn't like the overall feel of the book. I felt like it was a little bit droll. Cameron was confusing to me and I never warmed to Wiley. I also had small issues with some inaccuracies in language. Sorry!

Why I Don’t Write with an Outline

by Gen Ryan

It’s interesting to read and learn about how other authors plan out their books. I find a lot use outlines. Me, eh, not so much. My book ideas come at weird times like driving in the car or in the shower, and usually result in me jotting the ideas down in a notebook I keep handy beside my bed. Honestly, that’s the extent of my outline. Sometimes I’ll write general character physical traits so I don’t have inconsistencies there. I find it too constricting to write with an outline. A lot of my plot twists and turns come as I’m writing and I like to be able to go with it without feeling like I have to use the outline.

I also have been told to use outlines and have structured writing while I was in school. I even teach it. *cringes if any of my students read this* I don’t think it’s necessary. Can it make your life easier? Absolutely. But the way I write, and the craziness that is my brain, it needs to be free and not feel confined. If it becomes too structured, my mind resists and I get wicked writer’s block. Characters have their own voices and they need to be heard whenever and however they please. So no outlines, just free writing and the wonderful stories that roam around in my head!

You can find Genevieve curled up reading paranormal romance and romantic thrillers, or frantically typing her stories on her laptop.

Psychology is her trade by day, teaching and molding the minds of college students. Her interest in psychology can be seen in her books, each including many psychological undertones. Although she loves teaching, her passion, her true love, lays in the stories that roam around her in head. Yes, they all come from her mind-the good, the bad, and the totally insane.

She lives in Massachusetts-no not Boston-with her husband, daughter, and American Eskimo dog. With each story she shares, she hopes her love for writing and storytelling seeps through, encompassing the reader and leaving them wanting more.

Draw Play, Tia Lewis

Received for an honest opinion.
I've got to be honest, the jock needing a tutor thing is a little bit overdone, there's only so many ways each one can differentiate themselves from the other. Unfortunately Draw Play is just another one. Cade is likeable in that he's desperate to make things of himself but I don't think it's enough. Claire is kind of depressing with her self esteem issues and misfit friends. I liked the touch of drama but it wasn't enough for me, sorry.

F*cker, Amo Jones

Received for an honest opinion. What an intense story! Bryleigh and Ryker's story is all consuming. I love the pull they have towards each other and how the story develops but I would've liked it to be fleshed out a bit between when they were kids and the end. I also would've liked to have seen more of them as a couple. F*cker is a serious story and I liked the messages it had within it but the inside jokes needed to be explained if reading as a standalone.

#Bae cover reveal, Cambria Hebert

BOOK & AUTHOR INFO:
Title: #Bae (Hashtag  #8: Conclusion)
Author: Cambria Hebert
Release date: September 16, 2016
Genre: New Adult College Romance
Synopsis:

BEFORE  ANYONE  ELSE

The Hashtag Series #8

Happily-ever-after.

That’s what happens when you get married.

Right?

Turns out sparkly rings, cake and a fantastic wedding do not automatically grant you that, not even when it’s all you truly want.

I’m even starting to doubt the bottomless, unconditional love I share with the man I married will be enough.

I can’t have happily ever after, know why?

Because I can’t give Romeo what he truly wants. I’ve tried. So hard. I won’t be happy unless he is and something is missing. Someone.

Paparazzi are in my face. The flashing cameras and prying eyes are everywhere. My secret is getting harder to hide, and I know the second the scoop is dished the grip I have on the fraying rope of that happily ever after will snap right in my face.

In our face.

I can’t let that happen. No matter what.

Because with or without a happy ending, Romeo comes Before Anyone Else.

AUTHOR BIO:Cambria Hebert is an award winning, bestselling novelist of more than twenty books. She went to college for a bachelor’s degree, couldn’t pick a major, and ended up with a degree in cosmetology. So rest assured her characters will always have good hair.

Besides writing, Cambria loves a caramel latte, staying up late, sleeping in, and watching movies. She considers math human torture and has an irrational fear of chickens (yes, chickens). You can often find her running on the treadmill (she’d rather be eating a donut), painting her toenails (because she bites her fingernails), or walking her chorkie (the real boss of the house).

Cambria has written within the young adult and new adult genres, penning many paranormal and contemporary titles. Her favorite genre to read and write is romantic suspense. A few of her most recognized titles are: The Hashtag Series, Text, Torch, and Tattoo.

Dirty Talk, SL Scott

Received for an honest opinion.I enjoyed Dirty Talk. I did think it was a bit strange how Luke and Jane's relationship ended the first time but Luke genuinely got to me. I found Jane's expectations were a bit much and I was waiting for a come to Jesus moment and I guess it came in a different way than I was expecting, but it was solid. I also thought they got off lightly when it came to Jessica, and that in itself was confusing, but needed. Not a bad read.

Blogging comment

I just wanted to say something about the reviews I post. While I'm thankful to the authors who have provided me with ARCs, I feel they do so knowing that not everybody is going to like their work. It's a risk, but it's what happens and that's okay. What's not okay is the expectation from promotional companies that because I've received an ARC, that I post a favourable review. No. My disclaimer is the ARC is received in exchange an HONEST opinion, and that's what I will always give, an honest opinion. I'd liked to think, if people are following my reviews, that they know what to expect and value my opinion and I'm not going to devalue that by posting a favourable review simply because I've received an advanced copy of a novel. In saying that, I know authors read my reviews, it's what we do, and I'll never bash an author personally. If I say something unfavourable, it will be about the story or their writing style, which I feel is fair game. It's my opinion. I'm sorry if people don't like it, but I won't ever compromise a review because that's what people want. I want a mustang, doesn't mean I'm going to get it, the same with reviews.

Hotshot, Ahren Sanders

I never got the release packet so I'm doing this now, forgive my lack of anything!
Received for an honest opinion.
I'm so confused with this book. I love Shaw and Bizzy as a couple, I think they're great together but what happens with Sasha is so infuriating. I have never hated a character more than Sasha, which I suppose is a testimony to great writing, but I don't understand why someone would put their characters what Shaw and Bizzy go through. I hate Sasha so much I wanted horrible things to happen, which makes me feel awful. I think it also makes Bizzy seem weak when she's really not. I also think there were a little too many sex scenes, which isn't normally a bad thing, but I think they're used to avoid the conversations Shaw and Bizzy need to have but never really do. I love some of Ahren's previous books but this isn't one of my favourites, sorry.
