Each of these books explains very technical concepts by presenting them within the context of human interest stories. This approach makes the information more understandable, more memorable, and more entertaining. I thought someone should take the same approach to explain the hazards of radiation, because the public has great concerns about the dangers of radiation but there are few sources of accessible unbiased information. Strange Glow is my effort to fill that gap and explain radiation in a way similar to how the books above explain other technical topics. My goal is not necessarily to lessen people's various fears of radiation, but rather to better align their fears with the reality.(less)

It's a pretty entertaining book. But as an American, I found it a tough read. It's more a history of pubs than a history of beer, which is fine. But the author apparently expected an entirely British readership because the book is full of British pop ...more

This is an exceptional book. It's a deep dive into the lives of beavers and makes the case that they represent a keystone species. The author convinced me. I will never look at a beaver the same way again. But the book also chronicles how humans meth ...more
