I’m Back On the Blog … And I’m Married!
Heyyyyy, y’all! I’m back and ready to blog! Though we’ll see how long I keep at it.
My new goal is to post on this blog every other week (on Wednesdays except when special events come up).
Today, I’m sharing some wedding photos, stories, and other updates of my life! It’s a bit of a wild ride, and I probably won’t be able to communicate everything, but … I SHALL TRY!
ALSO, I MISSED YOU ALL! And I missed blogging. I’m really wanting to get back into the things I enjoy about authoring, and BLOGGING is aBsoLuTeLy one of them. So let’s get to it!
Legally and before God, on August 14th of 2021, I became Mrs. Matthew Langdon! And as soon as I get some name change stuff figured out, I’ll be Kelly Lyn Langdon officially.
Which is … insane.
(Note to anyone whose curious: Kellyn Roth will always be my pen name.)
I still kind of can’t believe I’m married, and it’s been almost a month. But I am, and I’m moved into a new apartment, and I’m working on all the various things that need to be sorted.
The wedding was horrible, as I expected (I say that with utter seriousness and yet with no malice – I hate weddings – and more on that later) and the honeymoon was fun except I was insanely sick.
Let’s start with …
The ApartmentWe had some scares with this thing, as we weren’t even sure we’d be able to get into it right up until like four days before the wedding (and we weren’t able to find anything else that would work).
I’ll be honest and say I was not happy about this place when I first went in it. I basically wanted to call it quits right then and there!
But it has turned into a cute space that actually looks vaguely like an apartment!
I’m very thankful to my parents and in-laws who did loads of hard work on my apartment, which is a converted semi-office space, to get it set up and livable. It’s actually turned out super cute!
Check out these before and after shots:

I obviously stole those from my Instagram, and we obviously were still missing a few things when those pictures were taken.
I actually haven’t taken a picture since we got the bed-frame, lamps, and nightstands, but here are a couple better pictures of the apartment:

We still have a few missing pieces (end tables, for one), but mostly, it’s put together, and I love how beautiful it is!
Now that we’ve discussed my home, let’s talk about the wedding.
The WeddingAs of now, I’ve only got a scattering of professional early photos! But I’ll soon have more. In the meantime, here’s what we’ve got of this beautiful day!

The day was beautiful. My photographer is an utter professional, and I can’t wait to see the whole gallery!
That said … I was a wreck, I felt horrible, and I of course HATE WEDDINGS. I cannot express to you how much. They’re just … everything I hate about being a woman? And about commercialism? And about the way beautiful, God-ordained things have been turned into modern nonsense trash?
Anywayyyysssss, that rant can wait for another day. I didn’t enjoy my wedding, but I’ll look back on the fact that I got married with fondness. Because marriage means a lot to me even though getting married is, in my opinion, silly and over-emphasized.
Marriage > wedding, every time.
Afterwards, we went on a honeymoon.
Throughout most of which, I was sick. It was part hormones, but the other thing is that …
According to some sources (mostly my opinion and some of my friends’), my body had been so used to being sick that actually fixing some of the things that were making me sick (e.g. removing dairy, lessening the gluten somewhat, eating more of the healthy things, trying to be more careful about rest, taking lots of pills that do who-knows-what) has put my body in mild shock (combined with, of course, the stress, big changes, and so on).
And being in shock, as I am now learning, sucks. Really ready to be done with it.
That said, I’ve lately noticed some positive changes, which I’m quite happy about. In the long term, this is a good thing! Right now, it’s not fun. (If you think of it, pray that I’ll get better! Though, as I mentioned, I am a lot better now.)
That said, Montana was so pretty! And I am determined to move there some time in the future due to the politics and the whole vibe. Though, of course, it would be very hard to leave my family and home.
If you want to see pictures, check out this Facebook album! It’s public, and you should be able to view it without an account unless Facebook blocks you. I also shared some photos to my Instagram.
Random Marriage TidbitsAs a romance/relationship author, I’ve been over-analyzing everything, which is fun.
I mostly just have this need to be improving my relationship every moment of every day – my motto is “it could always be better” – which is very bad. If you catch me doing that, be sure to squirt me with a spray bottle and tell me to go sit in the corner.
Though it’s a lot worse to not want to improve at all, honestly. I just feel, when I think about it hard enough, that it’s very important to move toward self-improvement in a slightly less goal-oriented way than I do it.
The focus should be on Christ, not on leveling up as a person. Christlikeness, not self-improvement, is the goal.
Apparently I talk down to people a lot. And it’s not best to say, “That’s because you’re dumb” in response to having this said about you.
For a while, I kept waiting for the honeymoon stage to be over (like how a dingo watches a human baby) and us to start fighting constantly, only to realize that we’ve never really had a “honeymoon stage,” we are already “fighting constantly” (in a manner of speaking – we have conflicts to work through every day), and I’m just so used to feeling miserable that I don’t always notice.
However, it is better than I expected, really.
Conflict and of course my ongoing issues of various kinds don’t go away post-marriage. But I knew that. And hopefully you knew that, too.
However, there being more at stake has pushed me, and I actually have functioned and worked and communicated more than I would’ve expected. Granted, not a ton. But let’s have a little celebration for Kell exceeding her usual lameness in even the little ways. *confetti*
There’s so much that’s unique and good about marriage that I can’t help but feel optimistic at the end of the day.
The only problem is, of course, that I’m the perfect wife and Matthew needs house-trained.
*everyone pulls out the spray bottles*
OKAY, OKAY. Sorry. You’re right. Eesh. You give people a little power …
ANYWHO, overall, so far I’ve enjoyed marriage because it has literally been less than a month, and I’ve had no time to hate it at all.
But I need to be more positive. I cast doom-and-gloom vibes wherever I go, and that’s no way to be. Just because I’m being a realist about everything (including marriage) does not give me an excuse to be a huge pessimist.
And, really, there’s so much to hope for!
Well, I’ll leave you for now. Thanks for reading!

P.S.HOW HAVE YOU BEEN? Do you enjoy this kind of update? Also, how does one incorporate rubber duckies into a blog? Asking for a friend … who rediscovered her love for rubber duckies lately …
Also, I am now a marriage expert and will be taking questions.

Beyond Her Calling | Cover Reveal
Y’all …
It is time …
For the Beyond Her Calling cover reveal and preorder launch!
Coming January 22nd, 2022 is this historical romance set in Scotland and featuring our beloved Ivy and our soon-to-be-even-more-beloved Jordy.
Ivy Knight feels that her life may never start. Though her loving family assures her that her place in the world is close to home, she still feels a push to move out of her comfort zone. Hoping against hope, she travels to her old friends at McCale House, seeking a purpose.
Jordy McAllen has just returned to Scotland after his education in London. He fears that what everyone has always said about him may be true: he can’t be a good doctor, let alone a good man. Determined to prove himself, Jordy snatches up the opportunity to become the doctor in the village of Keefmore near his parents’ farm.
When an old friend decides to travel to Keefmore and visit a relative, Ivy follows. She soon finds herself drawn to Jordy, but as their attraction grows, they both face doubts. A relationship between the two of them feels improbable—and might just require a step of impossible faith.

Hey folks! Time for the giveaway wrap-up! Let’s do this thing!
She’s willing to do anything to follow her plan.
Debutante Alice Knight is ready for her first social season in London. She’s determined to impress society and her mother with an affluent match, at last escaping her past and embracing a future of her own making.
Peter Strauss, an American reporter visiting England, isn’t exactly what Alice had in mind. However, his friendship proves invaluable as Alice faces the challenges of her debut. Almost immediately, she attracts the attention of a well-born gentleman—perfect save for the simple fact that he’s not a Christian.
The life she longs for is finally at her fingertips, but between her own heart and the convictions of her faith, she isn’t sure she ought to grasp it.

At Her Fingertips, Blog Tour & Launch, Day 7 – Mothers
Y’all, we now have just one more official launch day date before we dive into the wrapups, and wow … how has it already been almost the full week!?
I’m really excited for today’s post, although it’ll be brief, because we’re able to talk about mothers … and I love talking about mothers. Particularly two of the mothers in this story – Claire and Nettie.
She’s willing to do anything to follow her plan.

Nettie and Claire’s relationship with Alice is one of the most fun to write.
Of course, Nettie/Alice is the most obviously fun (and twisty!), but Alice/Claire and then Claire’s relationship with Nettie also adds a lot to the stories.
During this rewrite, I really wanted to do two things:
Highlight how much Alice relies on Nettie, andStill give some involvement to Claire. The truth is, Nettie and Claire just have very, very different mother styles … and they also seem to pick up on different aspects of Alice’s character and parent to those very specific aspects.
Claire sees and values Alice’s drive. Her aggression. She gives her advice to be a woman right where she’s at – without asking her to work on some of the harsher aspects of her character.
She encourages her to value sense, to trust her gut, and to seek a comfortable and safe life.
And most of all, Claire worries. She worries Alice will have to face the same hardships and difficulties she did. She seeks to push Alice away from the scary situations and heartwrenching scenarios that she’s imagining based on her own experience.
Nettie isn’t there to protect Alice, though. Well, yes, she is … but she also wants her to be a grownup because she knows, inevitably, grownup things are going to happen.
Nettie has a bit more perspective as someone who has accepted her own helplessness – and her need to seize at joy and contentment even in the fact of that helplessness.
Claire learned to fight when she was pushed down. Nettie learned to surrender all to God.
So Nettie pushes Alice to surrender. To take a deep breath. To accept a simple hug and a cuppa and talk through her problems. To listen, listen, listen … and stop this endless noise that she lives in.
No escaping reality. What is, is. What will be, will be.
I see the validity in both of their parenting styles, though I’ve never had a reader say Claire was a good mother. Perhaps I see a little how hard Claire is trying to push Alice in the direction she feels is best.
And Claire is still, truly, a young Christian – she’s probably only about six in Christian years.
Meanwhile, Nettie has a good thirty years behind her!
And Nettie has her failings. She covers up the truth until it becomes an outright lie – she protects in all the wrong ways. She still hasn’t been honest with Claire about what some of her friend’s choices have cost her.
But it’s so easy for my readers to have grace for Nettie (no pun intended) and none at all for Claire (no pun intended). Because Nettie is softer and wiser and less … Claire.
Anyways, I’d be interested in hearing your interpretations of these two characters! How do you feel about Claire and Nettie … and why?

P.S.Do you have an amazing mom? (I definitely do!) What’s an area where she’s really come through for you? Also, what are your thoughts on fictional mothers in general?

At Her Fingertips, Blog Tour & Launch, Day 6 – Siblings
Okay, so I don’t know if you know this, but Alice and Ivy have not one, not two, but for younger siblings! And I kind of count Nettie’s three in that number, too.
So why not have a day dedicated to introducing them? I’ve always wanted to talk about them more, but there never seemed an opportune moment … so I’m making one.
I’m talking about Alice and Ivy’s varied siblings. Because I know way too much about them. And now you must, too.
But we’ll also have our daily CELEBRATIONS and suchlike! So yay celebrations!

Edmond Philip Knight – “Ned”
Ned is the son of Alice and Ivy’s father, Philip, and his second wife, the late Miss Hazel Bailey.
He’s a tall boy with hazel eyes (like his mom … yes, she was appropriately named!) and dark hair. Of the three boys, he’s probably the quietest – and the most circumspect.
I purposefully wrote Ned to be a little “basic” – the kind of boy who learns the ropes of running the estate, who shoots and rides and hunts, who doesn’t cause anyone trouble, who presents a stoic face to troubles but is tender to his loved ones.
Why? Because if I make him a walking cliché, I have more fun to work with later because I have to develop him into a unique and interesting character!
Caleb Arthur Knight
Caleb is the troublemaker of the family. He’s energetic, thinks he’s both funny and cute and has that whole “Teddy Roosevelt Treated-My-Own-Asthma-Through-Exercise” vibe going for him.
Caleb’s best friend, though he’ll never admit it, is Ella, Nettie’s eldest daughter. She’s about three months older than him – and she will never let him forget it.
Caleb has blue eyes, like his mother, and dark-ish hair, like his father. (His hair is probably a little lighter than Philip’s just ’cause of how the genetics worked out, but still. Handsome dude.)
Caleb is actually the most fun to write of these siblings, especially as he gets older, but he has some fun moments in book 3!
John Clarence Knight – “Jackie”
Jackie is actually the child I know the least about! He’s Caleb’s “Irish twin,” meaning they were born within a year of each other.
I know he is quiet and shy, but eventually becomes interested in politics, and I know he has blue eyes and golden-brown hair that turns blond in the sunlight, like Ivy, but otherwise … I don’t know that much.
Mostly he exists as a counter to Caleb’s insanity.
Rebecca Marie Knight
Rebecca is the youngest Knight sibling. Dark hair and blue eyes, like Caleb, and a sweet personality … shy as a child but firmer and more like her mother as she ages. Especially since she’s got some bossy big brothers to out-sass!
I’m so excited to see her grow as the novels go on.
Malcolm Asher Jameson
Other than being responsible and devoted, I haven’t shown much of Malcolm. He’s Nettie’s eldest child, a very wanted and loved child.
He takes after his father, being straightforward but caring and endlessly devoted to his mother and sisters. I enjoy his straightforward nature and his confidence most.
Like his mother, he has gray eyes, but his hair is a shade lighter. Actually, all the Jameson siblings look like that, so just apply what I said to the next two!
Elinor Hope Jameson – “Ella”
Ah, Ella. All the spunk and courage we ever needed … yet I never would let her lose her femininity, not even if Caleb wants her to!
She knows how to stand up to him and push him and break him, and she’s only, what, seven? Endless respect, girl. Endless.
I’m going to have so much fun weaving more of Ella’s nature in! Though her future actually involves a long stint as a stay-at-home daughter, well, she’s still a really interesting character. One I really want to draw on as an example for some of my fellow Christian singles, because, due to her mother’s excellent advice, she knows what’s up!
Deborah Faith Jameson – “Debby”
Ah, Debby. All we know so far is that she’s a handful, but I’m imagining a slightly more emotional and bubbly character for her that will stretch Nettie jussssttt a bit. After all, Nettie hasn’t had to do anything outside her comfort zone in years.
Why not let our most late-in-life-blessed character have a serious problem child?
But in all seriousness, I don’t ever expect to spend nearly as much time on Debby as on the other siblings, simply because her future involves a quick marriage off-screen and a life as a farmer’s wife, which is sweet, but not really story material unless you absolutely love the character!

Today it’s time to talk about themes … and honestly, this is an area I always struggle to put into words.
How do I sum up all the little moments, the tiny nods toward truth, the characters who speak lies … and the characters who speak straight from my own heart?
It feels like so much – and at the same time, nothing at all.
Yet At Her Fingertips is one of the novels that felt like it was most full of themes. Themes of bravery, themes of following God’s guidance (even if that guidance is “cease and desist!”). Themes of valuing love, and yet not making it one’s idol.
And I loved it! I do feel that, if someone wasn’t used to Christian fiction, this might be one of my preachier books. But that’s because my characters are going so much real, big stuff that avoiding preachiness was almost not an option.
And … I mean, Peter, y’all. Peter is practically a preacher.
One thing I actually dislike is people asking me what the themes of my novels are … even though that’s a common and 100% valid question!
It’s one I answer many times during every launch, but I really struggle with it.
Why? Because I never know what my readers will get from the novel! I have readers who have picked up themes I never would have guessed at.
So I suppose my question is for you is … what themes have you picked up in the book, alpha and beta and early readers?
But for real, I had so much fun weaving in my characters’ arcs in this book … and I hope you enjoy it!

P.S.What were the themes of the book you most recently read (or wrote)? What are your thoughts on themes? What makes a book preachy?

So as I mentioned, today I wanna talk about love interests.
And for this book, well, it’s more complicated than you think. Because instead of being a normal person …
I decided to give Alice not one, not two, but THREE possible love interests.
And being the kind of person I am, again, well … I couldn’t make it obvious who she’d actually end up with! Because, otherwise, what’s the point?!
Yet I despise love triangles …
Essentially, I am a walking case of hypocrisy. The Pharisees are proud of me.
So let’s introduce these eligible (ish) bachelors!
Gibson Ashfield
Gibson is the dark horse in this race – I don’t talk about him a lot, but he’s a charming and interesting gentlemen who a lot of people in this recent draft have claimed to like … ish.
He’s one of those characters you rather love to hate and hate to love! And he’s so much fun to write, so I couldn’t very well leave him under-developed.
Here’s a few things about Gibson.
He loves shooting and dogs and all those other masculine British things. However, he would probably resent you if you told him he was basic. His best friend, Aubrey Montgomery, is one of those “how did they ever become friends?” friendships.Writing him is so much fun because his voice is just so bouncy and cheerful! He also has a lowkey ADHD vibe which is just … loads of fun.Peter Straus s
Peter is pretty much my favorite character. Everyone loves him, and I can see why. He’s that sweetheart of a guy that everyone wants to confide in and love and take care of.
My biggest problem when writing Peter? He’s too nice. Too kind. Too sweet. Yes, he’s a pushover, but women have a hard time seeing that as a fault. (Do I intend to correct that character flaw in my readers? Oh, yes, I do.)
Peter being American is also fun – and he’s half-German, too, which was fun to research. Anyways, I will ramble all day about Peter if I’m allowed, so now is as good a time as any to stop. But suffice to say, he’s a gem.
Kirk Manning
A fan favorite if ever there was one, Kirk is the guy who’s mentioned in every review … and I can’t seem to get a handle on that fact.
Because no matter what I do, I CAN’T SHUT Y’ALL UP ABOUT HIM.
Which makes me like him less, lol.
Basically, Kirk is Alice’s childhood friend. He’s stubborn, a bit presumptuous, but he knows her well, and they’re very alike. Kirk knows all about Alice’s childhood and past which means a lot of the mystery is gone – and I do love a bit of comfort.

Who are your favorite love interests in various books? What, to you, makes a fictional couple special? Feel free to ask questions directed toward Kirk, Gibson, and Peter in the comments.

At Her Fingertips, Blog Tour & Launch, Day 2 – Introducing Alice
Y’all, we’re here. It’s day 2 of the At Her Fingertips blog tour (which also goes by the name “Introducing Alice”).
Other than the ongoing Instagram tour, blog posts, and giveaway, I’ll also be introducing Alice in a few words. <3 So let’s do it!

Today I’m going to introduce the main character of my novel, Alice. This is going to be interesting, to say the least, given that Alice is an ENTJ Type 8, which is … intense to say the least.
She’s my Lady Mary character, and I couldn’t be prouder – but she tends to be too blunt and forceful for most people.
I have a lot of fun with Alice because she’s deeply flawed and not necessarily the quickest to correct said flaws … so she requires patience and a lot of careful writing.
A few facts about Alice:
Alice loves horses! She’s been riding since she was eight years old, and on the back of a horse is truly where she’s happiest.Alice’s best friend is Mary Cassidy O’Connell, an Irish earl’s daughter who she once saved from a bully.Though not a big reader, Alice is attached to the works of Charles Dickens – for sentimental reasons. Particularly A Christmas Carol.(Apparently, Sydney Carton is the ideal man? Peter and Ivy disagree, but that’s what Alice thinks.)According to one character in book 3, Alice’s eyes are more dark gray than black. However, I’m not sure how true that is, frankly. An interview with Alice:Hello Alice! Welcome to the blog. Tell me – how do you feel about the rewrite?
Honestly, you could’ve left well enough alone. The last version was a bit more pain-free, and it was already a difficult novel to live through. Yet, at the same time, I’m glad Miss Roth is driving for excellence. That is one of the most important things in life, after all.
What’s your favorite color?
This is rather a silly question. Does it matter? I suppose I prefer softer pinks, but that’s hardly a necessary preference.
If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be?
I would undoubtedly change a few details of my personality. Brush out some sins I lean toward more than others – make myself softer around the edges. Everyone is already commenting that I’m too forceful – too driven.
If you could own a pet of any type of animal, regardless of how impractical, what would you choose?
A dog, of course! What’s wrong with that? I wouldn’t want to own something exotic. That wouldn’t be practical.
How do you feel about the upcoming book 5 where you’ll be featured again?
No. The best description of how I feel would just be, “No.”
Today only, you can ask Alice special questions in the comment sections of this post! Just specify who they’re for, and I’ll be sure to answer them!TTFN
~Kell~
P.S.So … what do you think of today’s posts? Have you entered the giveaway yet? What’s something you have in common with Alice (and something you don’t)? If you have anything in common with her, I mean …
