Hey, you should check out The Thing Podcast

Finally, a podcast series all about John Carpenter's 1982 movie The Thing.* This week, I'm excited to be a sponsor.  Download it on iTunes here and find it online here.

*This is a lie. The Thing Podcast is actually "a weekly wade through the popular creative current to find those moments that help us feel connected to the bigger creative consciousness, aka The Thing." Hosts Matt and Eric are actually friends of mine and have super perceptive things to say about movies, TV, music, books and more. To me, they have a fresh take on judging content. Rather than ranking, giving a thumbs up or down, or starts, they decide whether something is "the thing" or not. In other words, the focus is on whether they connected with something in a personal way. They have good taste, and most of the time I agree with them.** If you like to dig deeper into the entertainment you consume, The Thing Podcast is definitely worth a listen.

**But not always! For example, both Matt and Eric have given up on Louis CK's brilliant new web show "Horace and Pete." Horace and Pete is THE THING guys, Horace and Pete is THE THING! It's a play, basically, it's basically Cheers with no jokes. The acting is superb, the writing is superb. In a lot of ways it reminds me of the short stories of Raymond Carver. It's a bit hard to get into at first because it's very dry. There's very little music, and it's hard on our short modern attention spans, but it's totally worth sticking with. In fact, the format of the show is part of the point. It plays into the themes of the show and how technology has changed the way we interact with each other, and how different generations interact with each other. I could go on and on, but let me just say that Horace and Pete is definitely worth checking out here. You can do this, guys from The Thing Podcast! You're veterans of The Wire, for Pete's sake!

The print version of Coyote is here

Hey guys. Check it out. Coyote is now available in all the formats*

It's actually been available in print for a week or so, but I wanted to wait until I had a print copy in hand before announcing it. Usually I try to play it cool, but I've got to say: it's pretty damn exciting to be holding in my hand a book I wrote.

Special thanks to Ben Rebant, who in my opinion designed a damn fantastic cover and had to do a lot of really annoying things to get the cover ready for print. You're a beautiful, fantastic man, Ben Rebant.

So pick your poison.

Get the print version here (this option gives me a bigger cut) or on Amazon and the ebook version on Kindle, iBooks, Smashwords, etc. And do me a favor: review it!

*Unfortunately, this is a lie. Coyote is not yet out as an audiobook, though I hope to rectify that sometime within the next year. I just need to figure out how to, you know, make an audiobook. This also does not include the Film or TV formats, which I hope are forthcoming to someday make me rich.

Get on Goodreads

I'm know I'm a latecomer to Goodreads and that most of you probably know all about how cool it is for people who love books. To be honest, I only signed up because I heard it was a good way to promote my novel. Authors gotta get paid.

Big mistake, not signing up sooner. Goodreads is a really cool way to discover and talk about books and to keep track of books you want to read.

So that's it. No news or ulterior marketing motive with this post, I just think Goodreads is swell.

Although... if you want to review or even just rate Coyote on Goodreads, I'm certainly not going to stop you... Review Coyote on Goodreads

Coyote now on iBooks, Kobo

Kind of crazy, seeing Coyote up for sale, as it feels like I've been working on it forever. Yet, there it is, available on even more online retailers, like Kobo and iBooks, ready to be bought and read.

If you prefer Barnes & Noble, Oyster, etc, check back and brangustafson.com over the next week. And stay tuned for print: I will be sure to make an announcement.

Coyote is out now

Coyote Cover.jpg

I'm excited to say that after many drafts, a lot of whiskey, months of procrastination and a whole lot of formatting frustration, my debut novel Coyote is finally available as an ebook on Amazon and Smashwords, coming soon to iBooks, Barnes & Noble and pretty much every other online ebook retailer. You will also be able to soon order a print copy from Amazon (which comes with a free ebook copy).

I couldn't have done it without my wife Linds and my friends who read the shitty drafts and gave me really good notes, and Ben Rebant, who designed a cover that was cooler than I ever could have hoped for.

Coyote is not too expensive, and I wouldn't mind at all if you bought it. On the other hand, I wouldn't mind that much if you didn't. Thanks for reading!

Hello, cruel world

I'll soon be publishing COYOTE, my debut novel and the first in a series of novels from the Untamed State.

To be honest, I don't plan on blogging much, but do be sure to check back once COYOTE has been published for news, announcements, a bit of salaciousness and anything else I feel like talking about.
