Loren Mayshark was fortunate to have parents who offered him opportunities to see the world and introduce him to many exciting places which instilled in him a passion for travel. As his wanderlust grew, he journeyed to more than thirty US states and at least as many foreign countries while visiting four continents.

After college, he supported his itinerant lifestyle by working dozens of jobs including: golf caddy, travel writer, construction worker, fireworks salesman, substitute teacher, and vineyard laborer. Predominantly his jobs have been in the restaurant industry. He cut his teeth as a server, Maître D, and bartender at San Francisco’s historic Fisherman’s Grotto #9, the original restaurant on the Fisherman’s Warf. While working with a

A New Piece of Fiction Published in The Plentitudes

Every writer seems to be on a journey and perhaps like life itself, no journey is exactly the same. My journey began far before I was ever aware that I would become a writer.  I have always had a fondness for language, a propensity to play with words, and a nearly unquenchable desire for knowledge that, among other things lead me to read obsessively.

It was not until my late twenties that I started

“As Chomsky explains, this is part of a wider movement to separate the population into two groups: the “plutonomy” and the “precariat.” The uber-wealthy thrive upon the precarious position of the “precariat” workers, who are so insecure in their livelihoods that they will not dare to strike or ask for additional benefits because of the risk of weakening their position.”
Loren Mayshark, Academic Betrayal: The Bullying of a Graduate Student

“Some colleges have become institutions that no longer thrive on education, but rather on the suffering, expense, toil, and insecurity of their students, as well as insecure faculty and staff.”
Loren Mayshark, Academic Betrayal: The Bullying of a Graduate Student

“Chomsky reminds us of the conversations about education that took place during the Enlightenment and that continue to shape our education system today. Two major philosophies were considered: the vessel model and the string model.”
Loren Mayshark, Academic Betrayal: The Bullying of a Graduate Student

“DEATH IS A PROFOUND LESSON IN TRUTH: We grow to understand more about it from childhood until the day we must cross the mystic chasm and abandon the land of the living.”
Loren Mayshark, Death: An Exploration: Learning To Embrace Life's Most Feared Mystery

“When we ponder the vastness of the universe and eternity, we are closer to understanding the role of death in the mysterious life we are all experiencing. Through these realizations, greater acceptance of the inevitability of death positions us to be happier in our lives. After my journey through these ideas I feel strongly that happiness and a deeper understanding of death are linked phenomena that offer a fuller existence.”
Loren Mayshark, Death: An Exploration: Learning To Embrace Life's Most Feared Mystery

“You can achieve enlightenment by simply spending time contemplating nature: the formation of clouds, the beauty of the forest, and the lifecycle of the beings that dwell within.”
Loren Mayshark, Death: An Exploration: Learning To Embrace Life's Most Feared Mystery

“Talent is extremely common. What is rare is the willingness to endure the life of the writer.”
Kurt Vonnegut

“I had learned already never to empty the well of my writing, but always to stop when there was still something there in the deep part of the well, and let it refill at night from the springs that fed it.”
Ernest Hemingway, A Moveable Feast
