Approval Ratings & Soul Cravings
When I saw that my friend, Wendy, was heading up the 40 Day Sugar Fast again, I said, “Oh no!”
Not because last year was a bad experience.
Not because my heart was refined in a much-needed way.
Not because God uncovered my anger issues and asked me to confess them.
I said, “Oh no” because it’s hard to go without sugar (mostly dark chocolate) for that long and I don’t like to fight my flesh. And because I knew that God had heavy heart-work to do within this hungry soul.
But I also heard an...

A Letter to 12 Year-Old Girls
I saw you the other day wearing a dress that your mom bought. You enhanced your ensemble with a sassy thrift store jean jacket and high-top boots with neon laces—just to make sure your personality came through.
You were annoyed at your mom for telling you, “No, we can’t run to Justice to shop just because you got a gift card 5 minutes ago.” So you sulked in your dress while you played with dolls.
You probably don’t know it, but you’re a beautiful contradiction.
On one...

Listen Close, Listen Well: What God Wants (Crystal Hall)
Time for another installment of the “Listen Close, Listen Well” series. It’s been such a treat to share these stories from writing friends around the web. I met today’s special guest through the #RaRaLinkup. It is evident that Crystal has a heart to follow Jesus and I know her words will inspire you today. Welcome Crystal!

Dear Tightly-Wound Woman: Sweet Words
I know you crave the sweet. But often you go looking for satisfaction in places, people and props that won’t fulfill your cravings.
I have made you to enjoy Me but often you seek joy apart from Me—you forget that I have given daily delights to draw You to Me, not to replace Me.
I’m not saying this to discourage you but to draw you back to the Sweetest Name.
I am calling you back to the richest fare of My Word.
I am reminding you of what you are missing out on when y...

Panting, Pushing, & Catching Breath
I don’t breathe deeply enough. I often race through life, taking shallow breaths.
When I am stressed, or in labor, I finally take deep cleansing breaths as I try to cope.
Labor with my Sunshine-headed son was intense back-labor from the start. Tears filled my eyes from the steady pain, with no relief in sight. I tried to stay calm but hours and hours without eating and an extremely tense back didn’t lend itself well to this endeavor.
Finally the time came to push but the nurse told me I need...

Interview with Kaitlyn Bouchillon (Author of Even If Not)
Welcome to another installment of The Interview Series. As an extension of #WeWrite (weekly Periscope videos to support and encourage you as a writer at 1:30 EST on Fridays) I am delighted to offer you a backstage pass as you get to know some current authors with newly released books.
I had the joy of meeting today’s guest in person at the Declare Conference last summer. Kaitlyn has encouraged me in many ways and I know you will be inspired through her outstanding book, Even if Not.

Listen Close, Listen Well: Fear and Doorknobs (Kim Osterholzer)
The Listen Close, Listen Well series continues today with a special guest. Kim and I connected through her sister Kris (who has also guest posted here). I had the privilege of providing feedback for Kim’s book proposal on midwifery last month. Kim is a talented midwife and writer. Let’s give her a warm welcome as we learn to listen better through the moving story that she shares today.
Kim Woodard Osterholzer is a homebirth midwife in Colorado Springs, and her passion is the happy, healthy...

Don’t Miss Sacred Assignments
Sometimes we can be so focused on what we want that we miss the most important things.
Martha struggled with this as she focused on meal preparation instead of being present with her guests.
Peter wrestled with this when Christ said He must suffer but Peter did not want it to be reality.
I battle with this as I insist on calling the shots and setting the agenda for the day.
Are you working so hard to get somewhere that you miss the beautiful scenery along the path? Do you insist on things...March 17, 2016
A Krafty Kash Discount for You!
As you well know, I am a fan of Krafty Kash’s custom jewelry. I like the way the pieces tell a story through words.
I often get stopped and asked about my word necklaces—they are great conversation starters.
This year I purchased a One Word necklace, “Listen”, to help me stay focused on this concept throughout the whole year. Speaking of listening, in one week we will welcome the words of a talented midwife for the next installment of the Listen Close, Listen Well series.

Miracles from Heaven (Movie Review)
God doesn’t always answer our prayers in the way that we hope. My friend Mel just wrote a post about that.
Sometimes God works a miracle when we find ourselves backed into a corner facing our greatest fear. My friend Charity can attest to that.
Sometimes God does the unexpected to get our attention. You can read my story about that.
God still does miracles today. Do you believe that?
