She is Priceless & Raising Grateful Kids (Book Review & Giveaway)
If you’ve been around here awhile then you know that I’m a fan of Mercy House. Today, Mercy House is supporting Global Giving Day to help raise funds for numerous non-profits around the world. These organizations empower oppressed women that have endured suffering and often feel forgotten.
Women around the web are putting on their pearls, taking a selfie, tagging Mercy House Global and sheispriceless.org in an effort to raise awareness about these world-changing non-profits that help women w...

Dear Mom: Some Thoughts on Expectations and Victories
Dear Mom:
I know that things have turned out differently than expected and I know that’s hard. You envisioned what kind of mom you would be, how your children would behave, and how much joy would fill your home. And, oh, there is joy, but there’s a lot of hard work, heartache, and recognizing your expectations were not realistic.
Instead of throwing in the dirty kitchen towel, instead of hiding out behind closed doors (although it’s perfectly acceptable to retreat to the closet every now and...

Dear Tightly Wound Woman: Breakthrough
It’s taken awhile, but it seems like you’ve finally reached the end of yourself. For years you’ve tried to muster up enough resolve but you’ve fallen short. And that frustrates you.
You’ve misinterpreted dependency for weakness and you’ve tried to accomplish and lead in your own wisdom. My way seems like a drag at times so you’ve tried to do it your way.
But as you hit a wall again, not knowing how to change, you call out to Me. You admit your deep need and that you...

Running Yourself Ragged and Losing Ground
“Sometimes I forget. Sometimes in the midst of church life, I just “do” and I forget the “who”. I forget the “Why,” and do not rest in His “Because.” My former worship pastor shared this with me, ‘The greatest impediment to your spiritual intimacy is your giftedness. Because you are gifted, you are going to make life work within the church without ever knowing God well.'” –Jennifer Schmidt
I’m a Martha fan.
You know her right? She’s Mary’s sister in the Bible. She was a doer—responsible and...

What to Do When You’re Stuck on a Creative Project
A few months ago I finished writing my memoir-ish book. I stayed up late for weeks determined to complete it. I then asked six of my peers to critique the manuscript. They each had a different approach to the feedback process but they all provided valuable insight to help improve the book.
Once I received their feedback, I planned on jumping right in and incorporating the changes, but I got stuck. I felt overwhelmed by the task at hand—there was much more work to do.
Has this every happened...April 26, 2016
Use this Easy Tool to Study Scripture
I am a list-maker.
To-do lists provide organization and clarity for my racing thoughts and busy schedule.
About twelve years ago I took a Precept Bible study class and learned to use a powerful tool that blended my affinity for lists with my love for God.
As you read the Bible keep a running list of what you learn about God.
It is a simple yet sacred practice. Let’s give it a try.
Find God in the Bible in 3 Easy Steps:Step 1: Pray and ask God to give you insight as you read.
Step 2: Read th...

Listen Close, Listen Well: Preparing a Place (Abby Banfield)
The “Listen Close, Listen Well” series continues today (and most Thursdays from now through the end of August). Since our baby girl is due in May, many of my writing friends are sharing their hearts and words throughout this series so I can be freed up to love on Baby Cinco. I know you’ll enjoy their insights as we continue to explore what it means to listen better.
Today’s guest is a dear friend of mine from the camping world. I’m delighted to host Abby and her words as she shares a special...

Giveaways, Deals, & Writing Support
It is a joy to be a part of the #40DaySugarFast. If you missed it, here’s the post about what God is teaching me through this time: When the Sweet Fix Makes You Sick.
I’m using a journal to document the things that God is speaking and doing throughout the fast. This “Catch My Breath” journal is one of my favorites via DaySpring. As a tightly-wound woman I need to be reminded to slow down and take deep breaths. You can purchase this journal through my affiliate link below....
